World Cup 2022: England vs USA - Friday 25th Nov 7pm KO

Back!? At no time were England in control of the game.

I‘d say first 20 minutes were England we had the momentum, the middle part of the game was all USA and the last 20 minutes was pretty even both teams just cancelled each other out at the end probably settling for the point. Looked to me like USA changed formation at HT they went two up top with Pulisic playing as the tip of a diamond. The two striker and Pulisic completely shut down England‘s centre back passing options.

I don’t recall USA having an attempt at goal in the final part of the game. They had that spell of corners early in the second half which England dealt with but USA‘s last shot at goal came in the 62nd minute from what I can find.

The momentum was very much with USA when Henderson came on they were dominating the midfield after he came on England started to compete in there and were able to get a foot in the game.

1 limp attempt by Rashford but had a great chance to win it with the Kane header in injury time.

There was a stat around the 75th minute mark that Kane, one of the top 5 strikers in the world, had touched the ball more times in his own box than in the American box, and it's not as if he was clearing all their corners, which kinda suggests the America had England's number from the off, Southgate was arrogant and ignorant in his team selection and he got lucky, and his preferred pairing in midfield got the run around which will do wonders for their confidence ....

Maybe it's all part of his master-plan ...

Probably better to learn that lesson in a group game than later on.

He may need to bring in Phillips if he’s fit and move Bellingham further forward against the better sides. Problem with doing that is it’s another work horse rather than a ball player.

Kane was starved of service to be honest due to the good work America did in midfield. He had one shot from a Saka cut back which Ream got a decent block on and he had the later header from a set piece which missed the target. Adams dominated that space in front of his defence that’s where Kane likes to play but England could get him on the ball in that area.

I think If we needed the win we would have seen more attacking changes but a draw was enough so I can see why he went safe.

Still think England are one of the four teams that can win the competition, but if Southgate makes wholesale changes for the Wales games as he surely must, and Wales win, it's not ideal going into the knockout phase on the back of a piss-poor performance and then a defeat.

One thing Southgate doesn't do is panic and let the public opinion get to him and force him to make rash decisions.

He sticks with his guys and that might be a problem for him as currently it's hard to make an argument for Sterling and Mount to be in the side ahead of some of our other attacking talent.

Thing with a group stage as long as you get through it not a lot else really matters you just get through and focus on the knockout matches.

We might see a few changes for the third game just to get some minutes into players who he probably want to use in the knockout rounds.

As for winning it on paper our potential route to the final is a horror show I think we'd need a lot to go our way to win it.

Haven't looked that far ahead to be honest, and i'm not that fussed if England win it or get knocked out in the first knock-out match, be nice for the United lads to win it mind.

Well if the results go as expected it would be France in the quarters, Spain in the semi and Brazil in the Final.

Bloody hell that's brutal ....

Maybe Southgate is aiming for 2nd in the group, it would explain his selection for the America game anyway.

If we finish 2nd we probably get Netherlands/Poland in the 2nd round, Argentina quarters, Brazil semi and France final.

I don't think England have got enough to get past 2 or 3 decent sides this time around.

Strange that finishing 2nd gives you an easier route to the semis.

Just the way it goes some times in 2018 finishing second gave us the easier route we played Columbia and then Sweden whereas Belgium who won the group played Japan then Brazil.

It looks like we're going to avoid an early exit for one of the big boys after the games yesterday Germany are suddenly back in with a good chance of going through. So the knockout rounds are going to be stacked out with the big names.

I think the path might make all the difference this year as there aren’t any real stand out sides. You’d say Spain has looked the pick of the lot, but not having an out and out striker is going to bite them in the knock outs. Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, France, Germany, England, Holland and dare I say Morocco could beat each other on any given day.

Brazil have looked the stand out side so far. They don't really give you a sniff at the back and have a quality keeper, midfield is solid and up top they've got so many players that can create a goal out of nothing.

France I don't trust their keeper but Mbappe looks on it at the tournament he could be the difference in every game they play the mood he's in.

Spain look good but think they give you chances and without a striker they aren't clinical.

Those 3 to me have looked by far the most convincing sides.

France look like the team team to me, Mbappe is on form too. Two good wins.

Spain I think look good and are possibly the team to beat, But with Mbappe, I think France have the edge.

Brazil I thought looked poor last night. I know they banged in a few the other night, but Richarlison as your main striker, I'm not convinced.

Think in both games France have given up good chances to the opponent which vs the better sides could be punished.

Just don't see Brazil conceding a lot of goals they look very similar to France in 2018 play a very defensive back 4 with 2 players in front protecting them then just leave the 4 up top to make the breakthrough. They've got so many quality options in that front 4 to get a goal.

Neymar getting injured could be a bit of a blessing for them as talented as he is you can't always rely on him to do the defensive work in games.
