Cristiano Ronaldo | Match Discussion thread 2022/23

Missed the big chance of the game sadly to make it 2-0.

A finish that a player of his quality and prowess should really be taking.

I don't want to see Ronaldo fail but the team can't justify carrying him anymore if he isn't going to be a killer finisher, a striker has to be found and in the door on 1st January.

And the Ronaldo bashing continues ....
Hardly bashing. Just an acknowledgement of his flaws and poor season. Plus he was a petulant little child when he wasn’t brought on as a sub vs Spurs.

He is no longer banging in goals to mask his overall deficiencies. He may well last the season but absolutely no chance of him being here next season. Time for all to move on.

Obviously I know you are essentially a troll on here but have a little think before you post.

It's getting so bad with him I'd consider chucking the lad in from the U21's for the last 2 matches.

Portugal shouldn't pick him for the world cup it is that bad.

Cant wait for him to go, I groan every time I see his name on the team sheet

Father Time has yet to be defeated, so there's no shame in aging and losing a step or three. I can handle the fact that he's not what he once was, what does my head in is that the whole Ronaldo FC Fan Bois circus that follows him around can't. Everything becomes about Ronaldo. Commentary is all about what Ronaldo thinks about this, or how he feels about being subbed/on the bench. Every mistake and the camera pans to him.

He's a past it aging superstar. Treat him as such. He is not bigger than the manager. He is not bigger than the football club. Stop singing that damn song every chance you get. Making a player who is so obviously unable to perform on the pitch, the centre of attention for everything can't stop soon enough.

Rio and Keane have dropped right down in my opinon because of their insistance that he should be palyig and it's everyone elses fault.

If you can't be honest, don't be a pundit, it's why I hate Murphy and Shearer

It's a tough situation they clearly have a relationship with the player which they have to protect and they aren't willing to burn that to say the obvious thing that needs to be said.

These are both players who probably played on a year longer than they should have done which is kind of how it feels with Ronaldo right now.

I just don't see how he can even try and carry on next season as he's clearly finished. Honestly the best thing for his career is to retire after the world cup.

That's not quite true though is it? He threw a strop, understandably, when he was asked to warm up and go on or a few minutes in a match already won, now if he'd been sent on in a desperate attempt to salvage a point he'd have been on in a flash, as well you know.

Oh do grow the feck up, an example of a online troll is, you and your chums are having a pleasant afternoon discussing dress-making and flower-arranging and along comes big bad JC and starts talking about combined-harvesters, that my immature friend is trolling, talking positively or negatively about Ronaldo in a thread about Ronaldo is not, hope that helps.

Well you could argue ETH wanted him to go on for the last 5 minutes plus injury time (5 minutes) to help close out a 2-0 win. That is 10% of the match when you think about it.

With Martial unavailable he wanted Ronaldo to go on and use his experience to make sure Utd secured the vital points against a top 4 rival.

It was pure stupidity and he paid the price for it.

Most importantly, he gets paid 500 grand a week to do what the manager says

Your post immediately lost all credibility with these words.

He's paid £500k a week to do as his manager says. He threw a strop because he doesn't get in to our starting 11 on merit.

You need to grow up and get out of the rainbows. He's a human being not a super hero and he screwed up. Get a grip. You're a 50+ yr old man with a hard on for the Portuguese superhero so large you can't grasp he's in the wrong for once.

It must be a nice life to live so obsessed with an individual you can't grasp he's wrong. But it's also pathetic. The most immature man I've seen on this forum. Don't let the door hit you on the way out to your Ronaldo love in.

The club is bigger than any player. Ronaldo included. You'd do well to remember that. He'll be long retired before United are done.

Yeah but you know, or should, that was not what EtH had in mind.

If it was just about seeing the game out against a Spurs side that was offering nothing, he(EtH) could have brought Malacia or Lindelof on and switched to 3-5-2, or better still given Garnacho or Pellistri those minutes with the clear instruction to run their fullbacks ragged.

Don't give up your day job pal

Well at 2-0 up you still need an outlet you don’t want to completely collapse into your own box and let the opponent push everyone into your half. From memory in that game Sancho was knackered and Rashford was just back from injury,

He needed a striker to go on and he wanted to put on a guy who’s his highest earner probably in thehope that he grabs a third and gets the headlines for all the right reasons.

The two wide players that day, Sancho and Antony had both been replaced(by McTom and Elanga) before Ronaldo refused to come on, it would have made more sense to put McTom up front alongside Rashford for the remaining minutes instead of Ronaldo, and bring Garnacho or Pellistri on to try and get in behind their fullbacks playing high in their 3-5-2, along with Elanga.

Or match their 3-5-2, bring Malacia on, and have him and Elanga try and get in behind their fullbacks which would have forced one of their 3CB's out to the wide leaving more gaps in the middle for McTom, Eriksen(who came on late), Bruno and Rashford to exploit.

But the simple fact is we didn't need another goal, that's probably the worst Spurs have played at Old Trafford for donkeys years.

Putting Ronaldo on at that time, in that match situation, made no sense whatsoever.

I'd hazard a guess EtH knew Ronaldo would refuse to go on that late in the game, and that was the only reason he wanted to do it - no doubt you'll disagree, and that's fine.

It doesn't matter what made sense. The manager told him he wanted him on the pitch and he refused. That's not his decision to make it's the managers.

If I was Ronaldo, and achieved what he has in the game I'd have refused to go on as well in that situation, as no doubt Messi, tubby Ronaldo, Zidane, Cruyff, Pele, Best et al would as well.

The Diva walk down the touchline is another story ....

He’s getting sacked and I’d say 99% of Utd fans say it’s the right thing to do.

If he cared about the club and the fans he’d have gone on the pitch for a few minutes because he’d have started the next game at chelsea.

Doesn’t matter if it’s someone who has scored 800 goals 8, if the boss says you’re going on as a sub, you go on as a sub. He’s an employee at the end of the day and on £500k a week - you can bloody swallow your pride and go on for the team for a couple of minutes. Not sure why the Ronaldo fans cannot get this into their heads.

That's the problem, he's living on past glories.

He's not getting sacked ffs, stop believing everything you read as fact. He and the club will come to a mutual agreement, and part of his remaining contract will be paid up and he'll go merrily on his way, and you and your chums in the 99 club will have to find something or somebody else United related to bitch and moan about. I so hope Maguire starts for England ....

99%

It's not about being a Ronaldo fan ffs, me personally didn't want him back, and I'd have lost no sleep if he'd gone to City, it'll be there in the archives if you don't believe me on that, but in this instance it wasn't a footballing decision made by EtH, and i'm staggered you can't see it.

That's the problem, he's living on past glories.

He will know he's coming to the end, probably sooner than he expected though, but he will still feel he can contribute if he's handled correctly. and he obviously feels he hasn't been, and he's not on his own with that thinking, the guy did score 24 goals in 38 appearances last season in a team devoid of any confidence made worse by the appointment of RR.

I've not seen the full interview, just the sensationalised bits like everybody else, and the only thing I feel Ronaldo went over the top was his criticism of Ralf Rangnick as that was pure ignorance of what the guy has achieved in the game, he wasn't right for United at the time, not as Manager anyway, but Ronaldo went too far.... the rest for me were fair game.

We shall see I suspect given his actions Utd will look to terminate the deal if they have the legal grounds to do so, if Ronaldo wants a mutual termination (best for both sides) I suspect that will happen. Pay him up to 31st December and off he goes. If he expects his contract to be paid in full then put him on gardening leave and ban him for the training ground for the rest of his contract. You can have your 15m in wages but you won’t be playing any football until next season.

Ive not seen anyone defend what he’s done. Getting Utd fans to agree on anything is pretty tough but Ronaldo has managed to unite them for once. They pretty much all agree he’s an idiot and that he shouldn’t return to the club.

Same here I hope Maguire starts, plays well and gets his confidence back. He’s had to put up with all sorts this season as well and he hasn’t run off to Piers Morgan to tell his side of the story.

Mutual agreement. Sacking. It's all semantics. Realistically, the only relationship Ronaldo and United have is a financial one, and those are negotiated through lawyers and come down to who pays what. The only thing supporters care about is that he never sets foot at OT ever again. Yes, obviously the less United pay Ronaldo, the more they theoretically have to invest in his replacement.

Which again, is strange from Ronaldo's perspective, because United were prepared to let him go in the summer but he couldn't find any suitable clubs. If he managed to attract interest in Jan, United wouldn't need to be convinced to let him go, so I'm not sure what he's accomplishing with this interview except having the opportunity to go full scorched earth on everybody and vent his spleen.

The Maguire connection is interesting considering the tension between the pair over the captaincy last season. After Maguire's own interviews, most United supporters were in the pro-Ronaldo captain camp. You can't expect a model professional like Ronaldo to respect a clown like Maguire, and yet as uncaptainlike as Maguire's words and actions were, they were nowhere near as unprofessional as this.

Remember when you said this about Carrick and the Middlesbrough job because you know him and could give JSP his number?

He's getting sacked and then he's getting sued.

You aren't the oracle you proved you're a bullshiter with Carrick.

Ultimately you need to grow up and stop pretending you've got any inside track to anything.

I'm guessing you don't want Cristiano Ronaldo's email address then?

I'm surprised he's got such a softy for Rooney and Neville, and he's got a hard on for Morgan when Morgan's article from years ago says way worse things
