Cristiano Ronaldo | Match Discussion thread 2022/23

Are we lucky to have him? He’s been an absolute legend of the game but what he has done before is totally irrelevant in the here and now.

He’s clearly past his best obviously, which was always going to happen with age. However, his overall play has waned and he cannot make up for that at the moment with goals. I wouldn’t go as far as saying we are playing with 10 men while he’s on the pitch, as he did score the winner against Everton. However, if the opportunity arose to ship him out in January and bring someone in then I wouldn’t hesitate to accept.

Let’s be honest if someone else wanted him he wouldn’t be here.

There is no denying he wanted out and the club were willing to let him go.

He is one of the best paid players in the league and I’d be surprised if he hits double figures this season.

We had front row seats for the ascent we now get a front row seat for the decline too.

We’re lucky to have a player who walked down the tunnel before the match had finished because he was an unused sub.

He's old enough to know that all his reaction has achieved is EtH being even more likely not to play him. Clearly thinks more of himself than the team, replace him in January.

It's deeply disturbing, a great night for the team/club, and Cristiano for giggles walks to the changing-rooms just before full-time to let the Spurs players on the pitch know the game is over as he's not needed, if they didn't already, and to put the heating on, and switch the kettle on for his teammates for their celebrity cup of chow - yet he gets dogs abuse.

It's almost as though some fans(and I use the term loosely), are only happy when they've got something to moan about ....

Enjoy the result/performance ffs.

Fans can still enjoy the result but also acknowledge what Ronaldo did was disrespectful. It is a forum of opinions and discussion of topics after all and this was a topic of conversation from last night.

According to the Athletic he was out of the stadium before his teammates got back to the dressing room.

I think he needs removing from the first team. We don't need this circus and he is not capable any more.

Our best performance in years, and he tries to take the spotlight. He needs to realise, he isn't that good any more.

The tit just wants to be the centre of attention and he can't handle the fact that this team is better off without him, he trying to steal the headlines by doing what he did.

What he did last night was pathetic. Huge home win as a senior player he should be out there congratulating his team mates on their win and a top performance. Not walking off down the tunnel knowing full well the cameras will clock him.

The sooner he's gone the better.

I think ETH has handled him brilliantly he's not allowed Ronaldo to dictate the debate he's the one in control of the situation not Ronaldo.

The fact left the entire ground before the game is finished is deplorable. What if Spurs had suddenly scored 2 goals in 2 minutes and we needed him on to try and find a winner? He needs to understand he won’t be needed at times but his ego doesn’t allow this.

I would tell him to bugger off now - mutually rip up his contract.

Think he went down the tunnel after the final sub was made so he couldn't have come on the pitch.

Be interesting to see how ETH deals with it going forward plans need to be put in place for his exit in January and a replacement even if it's a short term fix found. This has to end now.

Where's Ighalo these days?

Ah okay fair enough. Thought it was just before.

Has been dropped from the squad for Saturday. I'm loving EtH flexing his muscles and showing Ronaldo he is not bigger than the club.

@Sideshow Bob beat me to it.

Done a nice little speech on his Instagram about how he has always respected his colleagues and coaches. Further adds that sometime the heat of the moment gets to the best of us.

His PR team trying to dig him out of the hole he has created for himself.

Training with the U21's today according to some reports.

His statement is pathetic it lacks the key thing which is an apology.

ETH has played a blinder with him to be honest. He's played him and tried to integrate him but we see the results of that on the pitch so now he's dropped him and when he's moaned about it he's taken control of the situation and punished him. He needed the results to be going his way to do that and they are he's got the fans 100% on his side.

Honestly I'm not bothered if he ever plays for us again he needs to go in January after the world cup but there's also the sad reality that with Martial always being injured we need him to be part of the squad.

Maybe this time the penny will drop and he'll accept that he needs to be a squad player and accept that role rather than be the centre of attention but I wouldn't hold my breath.

It's actually worse than I thought it was as it turns out he refused to come on as a sub in the Spurs game.

ETH has no choice but to punish him and hopefully they've done him with the maximum fine too in terms of wages.

Discipline is key in any squad and straight away ETH has laid down the law that no one is bigger than him and the club you break the rules you suffer the consequence.

Still not fully admitting his mistake and has not apologised.
That’s the worst thing about it all. That Instagram message was just full on cringe! He is acknowledging that people do things in the heat of the moment but then not to apologise for is just ridiculous.

The fact it’s now known he refused to come on as a sub is unforgivable. Shouldn’t wear a United shirt again.

His reaction around the training ground will be telling when the players come in Monday to prepare for Sheriff you assume he'll be back training with them.

Hopefully the rest of the players are looking at him now and thinking what a tit, he needs to go into that dressing room and apologise to the rest of the players.

He can still make a positive contribution in whatever time he has left but the penny has to drop now with him he isn't the big dog anymore.

Thing is I don’t think he will be able to change his attitude. He still thinks he’s the big dog and can do whatever he wants. You would like to think that ETH’s actions have proved he needs to buckle down for the team but I doubt his ego will allow that.

It’s sad that this is happening because he’s a legend of the game and we were one of the ones to start him on his journey to greatness. He has gone well down in my estimation this week though.

We will see, he needs the people around him to tell him to settle down his mother, his agent, his girlfriend or whoever else it is that he takes advice from needs to tell him to accept reality. He isn't superman anymore he needs to be a team player.

The boss has to stay firm now standards are set and no one is excused, that's the big thing. If he's willing to do it to Ronaldo he's willing to do it to anyone and he's not asking for a lot from these players.

Yeah he's really letting himself down he's the best player I've ever seen in a Utd shirt but he is tarnishing his legacy with his behaviour this season.

If he keeps acting this way who's going to take him when his contract is up in the summer? I don't think anyone wants the Ronaldo show being attached to their club at the moment especially when on the pitch he's offering so little.

For me this incident shows his lack of respect for the club, which is really disappointing, as we all thought he loved the club that helped develop him into the world's best player. The absence of any apology confirms this, but he will now have no doubt as to who calls the shots. The manager answered all questions brilliantly in his press conference today, and the whole squad knows the consequences of any indiscipline.

The guy just keeps scoring goals, not bad for someone who is ready for the knackers yard.

"Viva Ronaldo"

Good pass for the goal but other than that he was woeful. I really hope he leaves in January.

It is really annoying how he always shoots at goal even from impossible angles and losing possession. We could accommodate it when he was knocking them in for fun but it is getting tedious now.

I would prefer to see Sancho play as a false nine instead of Ronaldo trying to the lead the line.
