Have to assume Martial will be out of this one and with two big league games coming up this might be the one where we see a lot of rotation.

We need the points after the slip up in the first game we don't have to much room for error if we want to win the group.

3 home games in a row for Utd so a chance to really build a strong position in the league and europa league in the next 2 weeks.

McT is banned vs Newcastle so he'll start this one.

DDG

Dalot Lindelof Martinez Malacia

McTominay Casemiro

Anthony Eriksen Sancho

Ronaldo

Hopefully see a few kids on the bench again and would be nice to see them get on to the pitch.

Needs to be a statement 6-0 or 7-0 win so expect EtH to pick his strongest XI, but would love to see Pellistri and Garnacho get a start, mmmm

A healthy win might be required just to bump up the goal difference as the group may come down to that.

After this game we have 3 league games in 10 days. I'd go with as much rotation as we can.

De Gea

AWB Lindelof Martinez Malacia

Fred McT

Elanga Sancho Garnacho

Ronaldo

I dont think anything I've seen from this team says healthy win. So just a win will be good enough

Is AWB even fit?

I think you've got to start reasonably strong get the job done then take people off.

Guess it all depends on how close to the "red zone" the physios think some of these players are as this is on paper the game where we should be able to rest people.

Dalot is someone who probably needs a rest but until AWB is fit what can we do there.

Does GD matter? If we beat Sociedad it will come down to the head to head as it's Europe. So just about getting 3 points on the board.

The league has to be the priority. Chelsea and Liverpool are there to be beat this season. Arsenal aren't going to keep this up and Tottenham don't look fluid. We can finish second and make the club look a better prospect but we can't afford to be running on empty come the Chelsea and Tottenham games next week.

Think if we have GD in our favour then a 1-0 win away would be enough if we both win out other 5 games. As it stands to be sure of top spot we would need to win away by more than 1 goal against Sociedad. It goes head to head first then goal difference from memory.

In the league there's two spots up for grabs in terms of champions league this season. Arsenal look like they'll be the main competition for City at the moment. Those two look like they'll create a bit of a gap to the rest at the moment.

Utd really need to avoid that extra round of matches that comes with finishing second in your europa group.

The home games to Nicosia and Sherrif should be easy wins with a few changes but it's important we win them by a few goals.

I'm with IDFD on this one. Ensure we get the three points midweek, but save as many resources as we can for the upcoming difficult league games.

I think with the five sub rule, I don’t think it’s as important to rest players in the lesser games.

That Sociedad loss in the first game means we cannot afford to relax. It’s obviously important to give the the guys on the bench games but I think we go strong in this one with maybe two or three personnel changes. Eriksen for one needs a little rest I would say.

I'd rest Bruno in this one and start Eriksen then rest Eriksen for Spurs.

At some point Martinez will need a rest if Varane is fit enough to start do we rest Martinez and play Varane alongside Lindelof.

There are 10 matches total before the World Cup. 3 EL, 6 PL and 1 EFL Cup. Assuming we play the kids vs Villa in the EFL Cup, that leaves us with 9 meaningful matches. I wonder if teams are going to run their players into the ground until the WC because if they don't, their international managers will. Regardless, the players will come back knackered in December, so might as well get as much out of them now because rotation will be mandatory when they get back.

Ideally we'd get a healthy lead and then make all 5 subs to see it out, but I think we all know that's not going to happen.

I would like to see this Casemiro - Fred midfield I've heard so much about. Apparently they're both Brazilian.

Think I read something that Utd have a very high percentage of players who will go to the world cup if fit compared to other top 4 rivals.

Of the regular first team players it's only really De Gea, Lindelof, McTominay, VDB and Elanga who are unlikely to go to the world cup. Everyone else is in contention for a spot in their countries squads. Although currently you'd say that it's unlikely Sancho goes but I reckon Rashford will get in.

ETH confirms AWB, Maguire, VDB and Martial all out with injury

Wahay!! Not much ball playing ability there but let's give it a go and see what happens.

Pretty strong lineup. I'd suspect Shaw is being rested for the weekend because he deserves to keep his spot after Everton.

Yeah I thought McTominay would start given his suspension at the weekend.

Maybe ETZh wants to give Fred and Casemiro AKA FredCase an outing

Ok start.

Final pass/cross has been poor though got into good positions and failed to creates a chance.

Have had plenty of chances to score but have been a little wasteful and also their goalkeeper is having a stormer.

We have just been playing a little slow and ponderous. The wide players are playing well but other than been a little poor.

That could've been anything. Rashford through on goal. Casemiro hit the bar and missed a header. Fred's header. 2 calamitous moments in defence.

On balance of play, we should be out of sight, but were too careless in the final ball. Disappointed in Antony so far. Think he needs to put a few crosses in and then skin his man. Dalot and Malacia have been poor, but we've bossed that half. Just can't score.

The keeper hasn’t been that special the finishing just needs to be sharper.

Fred and Rashford had huge chances.

Keep playing our football and goals will come.

You sure about that? We've almost been better this half and still can't score.

I can’t score for them.

The finishing tonight has been woeful.

Rashford has missed 3, Fred 2 And Anthony 1

All poor finishes that gave the keeper a chance or missed the target.

Phew. I always thought we would score but left very very late!

Another night we would of won 6-0 but their defence and keeper played absolute worldies. Credit to them.

Got there in the end finally someone stepped up and hit a shot properly.

Credit to them for pushing to the very end but you have to be clinical, we battered them but didn’t put them away.

Didn't see the game, but Jesus, talk about leaving it late.

Still not clicking are we. Think that extended break didn't do us any good.

@jsp Look away now, but 3.87 xG. 34 shots. 13 on target. It would've been criminal not to have won that.

Not sure their keeper had a worldie so much as we either hit it straight at him or put it wide right, but that was the very definition of battered them 1-0.

I think that performance from a number 2 goalkeeper for a team 6th in the Cypriot league could constitute as a worldie!

Totally agree the finishing was awful on another night we’d have scored 4 or 5.

They were a very poor side the keeper made some routine saves, there wasn’t a worldie save, just wasteful from Utd.

The way the group is shaping up we will need to go to Sociedad and score at last twice and win to win the group.

Ronaldo was really poor tonight £500k a week and he’s offering us nothing against a team of at best championship players, I hate to say it but he’s finished.

Was at a work conference most the day. Only saw the last 5 minutes. But sounded like their keeper was excellent. McT to the rescue.

Anyone walk away with much credit?
