Scott McTominay | Match Discussion thread 2022/23

Belotti is available on a free Italy international did ok at Torino double figures most seasons he's 28 and the sort of physical striker the boss wants but he must be asking for fortunes if he's still without a club.

That's who we should go for, been saying so all Summer.

You could quite easily make a similar video with Fred as he seems to give ball away quite proficiently. Our fans are partly to blame for getting caught up in the hype about McTom, as it was quite obvious early doors that he wasn't good enough....I can see no reason why Zidane, Savage and or Garner shouldn't get a proper shot....

And here's the clincher....who would buy Scott McTominay???...thought not

Which fans have hyped him up.

I have never come across a Utd fan who thinks he’s any better than average and in the last 2 seasons he hasn’t improved his game at all.

My guess is despite McT’s short coming the manager who watches them every day doesn’t think they are good enough yet to go into a premier league midfield.

Garner looked next in line but sounds like he wants to go the other 2 probably need to go out on loan for some experience.

You have to be seriously good player to go into a premier league midfield at 18/19 years old. I’m sure if any of these kids were running rings round the senior lads in training they’d be in and that is how it should work.

Also, you should really be putting kids in with reliable players to guide them not chucking them in when they are desperate.

On the hype....I remember a couple of seasons ago when he was out injured there was a lot of chat about not worrying because McTom was coming back as if he was a saviour...I vividly remember saying to a friend about allow bad it was that we were relying on such an unproven player and heralding him as a big one to come back from injury....

On the youth...yes we are desperate and I wasn't necessarily advocating for a full midfield of Z, Savage and Garner however instead of mctominay why not one of those in with Fernández or eriksen (the only experience we got)

Just think with the kids you’d want a quality centre mid in there to help them as the standard in central midfield in this league is incredibly high you need to be a serious player to hack it. Take a look at Foden Pep hardly ever plays him in midfield prefers to use him wide.

Rice is the only player I can think of recently who’s gone into a premier league as a proper central midfield as a teenager and established himself but he did it over a few seasons in a side that was struggling. He also had a seasoned campaigner like Noble showing him the way we just don’t have that.

Is Phillips even getting game time at City?

1 appearance off the bench so far I think he will be used more when the European matches start and we get more rotation of starting XIs.

He is a good example of a player willing to go to City as a squad player rather than Utd as a starter as there was genuine interest from Utd and for a while he was tempted but I’m guessing us dropping off a cliff last season made us less attractive to players thinking about moving.

Getting overlooked today. Probably our motm

At his current rate of bookings he will miss the Leeds match in 2 weeks he’s already on 4 yellow cards.

He played well.

Will be interesting to see if he keeps developing within this improved environment.

Obviously, I hope he does, but he has a long way to go.

For some reason he keeps grabbing around player's bodies and wrestles them....yellow every time

Scotland finally played him in his natural position last night and he put in a great display against Ukraine. Really coming on leaps and bounds at the moment, he just needs to maintain these performances.

Man City 6-3 Man Utd

Dreadful today, gave the ball away cheaply in dangerous areas.

He had a decent little run of matches but he isn’t good enough and he never will be.

So poor, does not have the composure or skill to play in midfield. I wonder if the only reason he came out for the second half was for his height when defending, even though I think he should have been marking Haaland for his first goal when Varane was off the pitch.

Gosh he was terrible. I usually at least see a bit of hustling or him using his strength but today absolutely nothing.

Awful. Poor decision making, misplaced passes, offered nothing. Need to sell.

He is nowhere near good enough and we knew this 3 years ago.

He can run around all he wants he has no control of midfield when he plays no matter who we are up against.

His time should be up in the summer and he will likely end up being a decent mid table centre mid as that is his level.

He's nowhere near good enough, not matter how much effort he puts in.
Terrible player.

Been at the biggest club on the planet for 15+ years, and apparently NewCastle United who want to be the new 'biggest' want him when they've got the money to buy anybody they want. Something doesn't add up, bringing your Manager an apple a day only get's you so far ....

15 years ago he would never have got near the first team.

He has been lucky to get the time he’s been given but he just isn’t good enough.

I suspect Newcastle see him as a good squad player and they don’t appear to be going down the bank breaking transfer route, the appointment of Dan Ashworth suggests they are going to try and spend wisely. They know with European football they’ll need a bigger squad to try and be a competitive top 4 side again next season.
