Christian Eriksen

Not having it Bruno is one of the players causing problems behind the scenes. The players all love him. Listen to them talk about him and his quality. Look at their social media interactions. We know the players causing the problems. It was mainly Lingard and Pogba. Paul Scholes revealed that to us not long ago.

As for living off past contributions you realise his contributions on his own season last year are better than anything Eriksen has done in 5 years? And up there with his best seasons?

I'm not sure the relevance here, I'm obvs talking about my opinion.

Yeah but surely you have to take a bit of the real world reality of the situation into consideration when you say we should sign Eriksen.

Not saying your opinion is wrong but the club isn't going to sell Bruno this summer so you have to consider that as part of your opinion over signing Eriksen. Surely?

Also, you're suggesting we take a loss on a player who's hit double figures in goals for the last 3 seasons to bring in a replacement who's older, has had a major health scare and is on the decline?

As for the behind the scenes stuff I haven't seen anything to make me think there's a problem there Bruno is a winner I'm sure he can be a bit annoying but he's best mates with Mata and you think he's a great guy if Bruno was a c*ck I doubt he'd want to spend much time with him.

There were clearly some divisions in the camp last season which made it an unhappy place but the trouble makers to me seemed to be the lads who weren't playing regularly and were fed up which is perfectly normal when the team is also losing.

No, just took a guess on his price.

Some articles said the devision was Ronaldo/Bruno and the English guys.

I know we are not going to sell Bruno, it would be stupid, because if he does find his form we need him. But I don't see a problem with competition. I don't think DVDB will be playing that role.

We don't know who causes the problems, but the way he whinges and moans on the pitch, at refs, and colleagues doesn't sit well with me. He hits way too many bad passes to moan at others about it. I want him to sort his game out.

according to transfer market, Bruno had 10 goals and 6 assists in 36 games, Eriksen had 1 goal and 4 assists in 11. Which would indicate he assists more.

I think the main reported beef was Ronaldo and Maguire something clearly went on with those two I'm guessing Ronaldo probably went off at the players over the shambolic defending in a lot of games and that didn't sit well with Maguire.

Fair we don't really know the system to start with it looked pretty 4-3-3 with Tadic playing as the false 9 at Ajax. Dropping off the front and two very attacking wide players who almost play as strikers similar to how the Liverpool or Spurs front 3 play with Firmino/Kane dropping deeper and two wide players getting past them. That sort of role could suit Ronaldo and it could certainly suit Rashford/Sancho/Elanga in teh wide areas.

In the midfield you'd say the number 8's currently would be VDB, Bruno, Fred, McTominay but what we are really missing is the number 6's none of those lads can play the holding role in the way that system needs. De Jong is a guy who could make that work but Eriksen isn't. Man if we could just fire up the time machine and bring back a 25 year old Carrick to sit in that midfield we'd be laughing.

I'd also worry why he only managed to play 11 of 16 games if he's back to full fitness.

In his United career the last 3 seasons Bruno has 50 goals 39 assist. In the premier league it's 36 goals 25 assist in 3 seasons (87 games) Sixty one goal contributions in 87 games is ridiculous I can't see the Bruno dislike he's a fabulous player who we need more on his wave length with, he thinks faster than most only Mata and Ronaldo had the footballing brain to play with him at times.

Eriksen in the last 3 seasons has 10 goals 10 assist. Eriksen in his prime at Tottenham could keep pace with him for assist and maybe even a little better. (But lacks the finishing of Bruno) But his prime has been and gone we haven't got a time machine.

have you seen how often gives possesion away?

And please, I did say he played out of his skin when he arrived, the last 18 months however have been very frustrating.

I assume you really mean the last 9 months. the season before he was second in the assist charts in the league and third for goals.

But that's my point. He's had an 'off season' with 16 goal contributions in the league. Any other player than Ronaldo chips in with 16 we are praising the season they've had. He also got 6 assist in 6 games in the champions league. In a frustrating season he's contributed to 22 goals. You're not getting that from this level of Eriksen.

I suppose he could just play a bunch of sideways balls and never make anything happen.

His pass completion is down because there is generally nothing around him so he has to take risk to make things happen. If there are more players around him and the system is more structured then you'll see more conventional football where appropriate. That much is obvious.

This has the pass completion rate of De Bruyne and Bruno 0.2% apart. Just ahead of Trent Alexander. The two players people call the best two passers of the ball in the league. Creative players give the ball away. It's what happens when you're trying defence splitting passes.

You'll also see Bruno is 6th for progressive passes completed. The only player in the top 10 that is a forward player. Is Xa is negative and he's second for most passes leading to a shooting oppertunity. Level with De Bruyne 1 behind TAA. This is the level the guy is at.

Bit of a comparison based on last season.

Stat Bruno Eriksen

Games 36 11
Goals 10 1 (neither scored a penalty last season Bruno missed 2)
Shot Success Rate 11% 5%
Assists 6 4
Passes 1901 544
Big Chances Created 15 5
Pass Completion 78.3% 80.9%
Dispossessed 40 9

Obviously the number of games makes them hard to read but I'd say they are pretty similar.

Bruno scores a lot more, they create about the same number of chances and Eriksen is slightly better at keeping possession.

I’ve never quite got the criticism of Bruno on giving away possession. He is always looking for that killer ball so is going to give away possession because no-one always hits their target when looking for an extravagant pass. Sure he can be sloppy in possession but for the most part I would rather him look for those splitting passes rather than passing sideways or backwards.

I just think to play in a controlled team you need to have some control to your game. I don't think Bruno has that. I agree he's going to give the ball away more than most as he's looking for that killer pass but he needs to understand situations. KDB is looking for killer passes but realises sometimes a simple option or just keeping possession is better. Bruno doesn't really do that.

Bruno does things that a lot of players can't do. He sees things, tries things, executes things that others can't. But he also does things at times that I scratch my head at. Like he tries something and looks like he shouldn't be on a football pitch because his attempt is appalling.

There's giving the ball away, and there's kicking it out of play, or putting it straight at opponents feet.
He also runs around like a headless chicken, can't keep any shape, chases down the wrong balls. Moans a lot and behaves like he's a superstar. But even on his best day he is not that.
I just dont like him. But it's not just him, I hate most of them and what they are doing to my club, disrespecting it and the fans.
They all start from a very low level this season

Eriksen wants to stay in London according to the latest rumours today

Reports that he wants to stay in London so it's between Spurs and Brentford. If that's true then that's how far United have fallen.

Think for him signing 1 year deal at Brentford is the best thing for him chance to play as much football as possible going into the world cup which is surely his target for next season.

Clubs aren't going to be chucking long contracts at him because of his health situation and he probably doesn't need the money.

Still think Arsenal makes a lot of sense for him they are really short of attacking players gives them an option to cover Odegaard as smith-rowe tends to play from the wing quite a bit. Tricky move to pull off due to his history with Spurs.

West Ham another decent option I think to add to the squad we kind of assume they'll get Lingard but it's all a bit quiet with him at the moment as he dicks around in New York on holiday. Some suggestion that he wants to stay based in the North West close to his family.

I still find our reported interest to be a bit odd and not make much sense given what we already have but who knows what ETH is planning.

If ETH has a plan with Eriksen then I’m all for the signing as I think he can definitely do a job for us. For Eriksen himself, the best move may well be to Brentford as he would be the main man which is important in a World Cup year.

Watch this space I guess.

Yep while it might not be what I think we need he obviously has the full picture and has the control.

Wouldn't be my pick so not going to be to excited about him coming feels like another cheap fix to a problem that I'm not even sure exists to be honest but if the new boss wants him then hopefully he's got a plan for him.

Thomas Frank confirms agreement with Manchester United, looks like this one could nearly be over the line.

Not sure how I feel about this one, but on free at least, so not dipping into our funds earmarked on the other 50 targets were linked with !

Where's that update? I saw Frank had suggested that he was waiting to hear from Erikson?

Glazernomics written all over it. Meh. Is my choice of words. But hopefully he proves me wrong.

it's a great deal, we're bringing in a very good, hungry international player who is going to push current players into upping their game or getting dropped. It makes perfect sense to me.
I did read ETH has a new role planned for Bruno anyway.

Got people on here saying Mane is a brilliant cheap deal for Bayern at 35m, but also saying Eriksen is too old to take on a free for a year with an option. Same age.

Also people saying ETH probably doesn't even want him, yet when Ole didn't want DVDB and didn't play him, said the manager has control

Think the difference here is Mane has been one of the best players in the world for the last 4 years playing the best football of his career whereas Eriksen has been a player who's career has been in decline for the last 4 years.

I'll judge him by how he does but to me he's a strange signing based on what we already have but if the new boss wants him and he sees a role for him no problem bringing him in on a free.

Certainly feels that way but guess you judge how it looks at the end of the window.

If we get in a 3 quality starting XI players and Eriksen to give us a bit more depth then I don't really have an issue with that.

Just feels a bit of a strange one as we aren't really short of his type of player but it's a free transfer he'll be on decent money but don't think he'll be in crazy money so lets see how it goes.

I’ve seen some quotes but it was Frank confirming an agreement with Eriksen about him letting him know when he’s made his decision.

Not sure if anything has really been decided either way at the moment.
