Beat Wolves this evening at Old Trafford to reach our first final since 2011

crazy to think it’s been that long since Utd reached a final hopefully a sign that the damage that was done by cost cutting after the Glazer takeover has been repaired and Utd are once again producing top talent.

The last final involved 3 current first team players Lingard, Pogba and Maguire (played for Sheffield Utd).

Kobbie Mainoo. Watch out for this lad
Yep he looks an absolute gem and still only 16.

We have a fair few young players who are looking very very good at youth level. Garnacho, Fernandez, McNeill and then guys like Shoretire who have already had a taster of first team action. Oh and Mejbri who I expect we will see soon get some minutes.

Nothing to do with cost cutting, City hoovered up anything that moved in the NorthWest for the last 7/8 years leaving us, Liverpool and Everton to pick up the scraps, and the 30/60/90 minute travel rules restricted who we could scout/sign from elsewhere in the Country.

Utd didn't react though they allowed City to come on to their patch and take the talent and they stopped looking for top talent in Europe as well costs were cut at the very start of the takeover. Those cuts take time to show in academy football and it really showed through the last 10 years the good news is they strated to put that right again a few years back so now we're getting back on track.

City got the kids because they built top class facilities, hired the best coaches and also gave the kids a private education which was a huge selling point to families although I think that got them in trouble.

Notts Forrest beat Chelsea 3-1 in the second semi.

Would have preferred a neutral venue now that they've done away with two legs. There's enough pressure on the United lads as it is just representing the club in a final without having to play the match at Old Trafford, previous experience playing there in the earlier rounds will count for nothing on the night - Got a horrible feeling it will work in Forest's favour.

And it's Nottingham Forest and Notts County. Ask 'em at the City Ground.

Forest coached by our former academy manager Warren Joyce so we know these lads are going to be well disciplined.

Must be some good lads in that side to beat Chelsea who have bossed this competition for the last decade.

Sounds like it’s going to be a bumper crowd at OT tonight!

Hopefully the young’uns will give us something to cheer about!

Yeah seen a few suggesting it's pretty much a sell out.

Hopefully they can get the win as the club needs some good news in this horrible season both on and off the pitch.

Outsold the max capacity at every other Prem ground.

It is only £1 a ticket though

I'd have gone

Great result for the lads been 11 years since we had a side that won the youth cup and many of those players went on to have professional careers.

Next few years are vital how they transition from the academy level to the first team level at Utd or any club is a massive step. As it's crazy to think from the best youth side in the country this season you'd be very lucky if 2 ever established themselves in our first team squad and many of them won't even be in the game in 5 years it's that ruthless.

They'll obviously progress to the U23 next season which will be another level to challenge themselves at and you would expect they'll have chances to train with the first team and maybe even make a matchday squad at times.

I didn't see the game but from what I saw on twitter it sounded like a close game that swung on a very dubious penalty decision the foul apparently only replay was well outside of the box.

Hopefully this shows that the academy is finally getting back on track after a period of neglect Utd certainly lost ground to our rivals in the production of young talent it's time to get that part of the club firing again.

Regarding the penalty you could sort of see it written all over the refs face. If I don't give a penalty I will have to send the kid off.

Yeah I didn't see the incident personally in those circumstances I think a penalty should always be awarded with no red card if you deny a goal scoring opportunity you give the team back the goal scoring opportunity and book the player unless it's something really cynical then it's penalty and red card.

I did see a few comments from one of the people high up in the academy about the restructuring of it saying Utd are trying to work with smaller groups of kids from 16 upwards they aren't doing what other clubs are doing and stockpiling players. They feel that is the wrong approach as you won't give the kids the right focus they need so when it gets to 16 years old they start to shrink down the squads a bit to focus the group.

With the new Brexit rules clubs can't fill their academies with 16 year olds from across Europe anymore so youth football is going to change and these sides will look a lot more British going forward. The likes of Hannibal, Garnacho, Fernandez were the last crop of foreign signings at Utd.

There is an abundance of talent in our academy but obviously that step up to first team level is a major jump.

Jurado is really coming on leaps and bounds. Could definitely sort out our right back slot going forward, a lot like Fernandez could at left back.

Then there is Hannibal, Garnacho and Mainoo who all have the tools to go very far in the game.

Class of 22!

I wouldn't care about age, if they're good enough, then play them. anybody must be better than our current squad.

Richard Keys saying Chelsea are after Maguire, I hope that's true.

I think the thing we likely have to accept right now is that none of these kids will be nowhere near ready for the first team right now if they were chances are Rangnick would have used them.

I expect a few might get a look in for the last game of the season.

Would be nice but I can’t see it a raft of youngsters in the squad.

If we are presuming West Ham lose to City on Sunday then we are only 3 points ahead with a substantially worse goal difference. So we cannot afford to take it to casual.

It’s sad to see us scrapping between EL and ECL but the EL does offer a route into the CL.

Not sure our first team will beat palace if palace go for it against us but I reckon they might chuck a few kids in too as they are playing for nothing.

I don’t see them starting but 2-3 on the bench would be nice.

Funny seeing Hannibal Mejbri celebrating with the squad at the full-time whistle, if you didn't know different you'd have thought he was an injured squad player, not somebody 2/3/4 years older than the lads that played.
