So the Athletic reported the other day 4 names are currently being considered for the permanent manager.

Erik Ten Haag
Mauricio Pochetinno
Luis Enrique
Julen Lopetegui

All 4 managers are currently employed but I'd say 3 of them could be tempted this summer I don't see Luis Enrique leaving the Spain job before the world cup.

I think the guys who write for the Athletic are much more reliable than the Sun.

I don't see Utd appointing Ralf unless their first choice options are all unavailable he would be the fall back option.

If Italy make it to the world cup he won't come I also don't think he'd appeal to Utd his club record since City isn't great.

to be honest, the only one I want is ten Hag, all the others are meh.

For me I would rather it be Ten Hag or Luis Enrique.

Ten Hag is burgeoning his reputation year by year but many players and coaches have come from the Dutch league and struggled. However his impressive CL showings do suggest he’s got something about him.

Luis Enrique would be my favourite but like jsp said it is very unlikely he will leave the Spain job. And we would have to go into the season with an interim until Enrique was done with Spain. That seems a whole lot of disruption in a season where we need to establish some solidity.

There was a stage where Poch was my stand out choice but I don’t know I’ve become quite lukewarm to the idea.

Don’t know a hell of a lot about Lopetegui so cannot really pass comment but his ill fated spell at Real Madrid could count against him.

I think Luis Enrique is the stand out man on the list to be honest but he's probably the least likely one we can get.

As for the others I don't know enough about Ten Haag I'd be worried about him being able to recreate that magic at Utd where you aren't the dominant force in a league.

Poch I like I know he's not everyones cup of tea but he knows the league and I really like the way his teams play it's not been easy at PSG because it feels like the players run that club not the manager. At Spurs I think things just run their course and went a bit stale couldn't replace the players they lost with similar quality.

As for Lopetegui things didn't work out for him at Madrid the pressure was massive because of the fall out over him taking the job before the world cup in 2018 and having to resign but going into that tournament he'd got Spain in good shape. He's also doing a great job at Sevilla.

My list would be.

1. Luis Enrique
2. Poch
3. Ten Haag
4. Lopetegui

Proof will be in the pudding.

let’s hope the mistakes of the last decade under Woodward are not repeated and we can get back on track.

According to ESPN there's now a 5 man shortlist.

Erik Ten Haag
Mauricio Pochetinno
Luis Enrique
Julen Lopetegui
Carlo Ancelotti

Ancelotti is seen as a short term option if we can't land one of the top 3 guys this summer there are whispers than Madrid may look to go in for Pochetinno as part of their rebuild which would make some sense if they rate him.

I think Ancelotti is great but this needs someone who can come in and really grab it for a few years and build something we can't be appointing another man thinking he's just keeping an eye on it for 12 months. This is sort of what Ancelotti does and he's very good at it but I don't think it's the right time for that given the amount of change required in that squad.

Really hope it's not Ancelotti. He's not the future; we need someone who can build a team that has their own unique brand.

I think you mean 'my hissy fit will continue unabated.'
haha

You call it hissy fit, I say saying what I see, garbage.

Sunday will tell all, we give a good accout of ourselves and I'll go quiet.........unless or until Liverpool rip us a new one :p

I'm pretty sure it isn't going to be Ten Hag. To me it should be him but I don't think it will. I think United will go for Poch after all these years.

Think we should give the gig to Putin, then at least we wouldn't waste the next two years deciding whether we hated him or not.

After that debacle last night surely Poch is out. We can't be considering him now.

Very passive on the bench, which is him all over. He is not the right man for Man Utd. But of course he will be free. The PSG fans hate his football.

If we have all these people at top level hunting for a manager, Ralf as a consultant, and they come back with Poch. That will be the be the end for united.

Totally agree we should be looking past Poch. Just don’t get the vibe that he will come in and instantly take us to great things. Obviously any coach that comes in doesn’t have a magic wand - however for me I am strongly leaning towards Ten Hag now.

I know people won't want to hear it but I don't think it rules Poch out he's clearly got his hands tied by player power at that club.

For me the only thing against him last night was not deciding to take a stand and sub off either Neymar or Messi at 1-1 to try and stem the flow those two became a total liability in that last period of the game.

It almost feels like at PSG no matter who the manager is the players are making the decisions it's why I think it would be a huge mistake for Rashford to go there as that dressing room is rotten.

What's crazy is for 90 minutes in Paris and 60 minutes in Madrid they destroyed Madrid but in one 15 minute spell they gave the whole game away by sh*tting themselves. How can you blame Poch for Donnarumma, Neymar and Marquinos making critical errors that cost goals? Neymar had to foul Modric when he led that counter on the second goal.

No manager will ever sort out that group of d*ckheads out.

oh the PSG project is a disaster no doubt. Galatico football does not work. And they need a rethink/replan.

That doesn't change the fact Poch buckled in a big game yet again. Lots of press saying that game was won/lost on the management bench.

Emery failed
Tuchel failed
Poch failed

The only mark against him last night for me was he didn't have the bottle to take one of those lads off not that he had much on the bench to bring on for the record.

It reminded me a lot of our match vs Real Madrid in 2013 when Nani got sent off Utd were leading 2-1 on agg and Fergie spend 5 minutes going mad while Mourinho made key subs that totally changed the game and quickly they banged in 2 goals to make it 3-2 on agg.

It honestly feels like at PSG he's been told you can't sub any of the big three off in games as it's always the same story with them when they collapse in Europe they blame the managers and not the players.

Feels like Tuchel might now be an option with everything going on at Chelsea surely his future can't be considered secure.

Maybe bring Reece James and Kante over with him to solve a few problem positions too

Tuchel stuff is actually ramping up. Bookies have now made him third favourite.

Guess it comes down to can he get out of his contract because of the current situation.

If he can't Chelsea need him to stay as they can't replace him.

How do you feel about that as you don't really rate his Chelsea side?

I'm not sure I like idea of Tuchel, I quite like him in interviews, but his football I'm not so sure. Is he capable of the huge amount of work required at OT, or does he need a team?

I think at Chelsea he's played a system to suit his players rather than play his preferred system.

At Dortmund he was more of a 4-2-3-1 style coach the German pressing system and it was pretty similar with PSG but at Chelsea he joined a team that was suited to 3-4-3 so that's what he went with. At Chelsea there isn't the pressure to play free flowing attacking football they're a side that's been built up over years as a solid defensive counter attacking side so that's pretty much how he's gone.

Utd won't be the only club keeping an eye on this situation Real Madrid might have an eye on him to now as a potential option for them.

Whoever comes in will be changing the squad a lot but it's all about getting a top coach and then getting the best people behind the scenes to find the right talent for the club and therefore the manager.

I'm just not a fan of 3 at the back. Also think everyone jumped on the hype train with Tuchel. He's done a great job but it was made to look better by how Lampard was under performing with that side.

I don't like the purchase of Lukaku but I think that might have been made above his head.

Ultimately i'd take him. The guy is a football genius up there with Pep. I read an article on him in the build up to the champions league and it was saying listening to him and Pep discuss football was a conversation most wouldn't grasp. I'd definitely want him over Poch.

TBF, I'd want anyone over Poch :)

I do like how he is interviewed, what he says and how he says it. I don't like his football at Chelsea but as you say he might not play 3 at the back with us.

Certainly if he becomes available, Madrid will be interested too, which to be fair, is more enticing than united at the mo.

If the club has done their homework, got someone in mind, I'm not sure they should divert, unless that person was Poch.

Also, I think the gov will let Chelsea be sold under certain conditions, which will release the club. But with no income coming in until then, they could take a huge hit financially over a small period of time.

He's part of that rangnick inspired generation if Ralf is sticking around for 2 years to help sort things out behind the scenes that might make Tuchel think it's worth a crack.

Being the mad who rebuilds Utd and puts them back on top is a hell of a thing to have on your CV it's why I think Utd will keep attracting top managers if the money is right.

If United appoint Poch then you'll be in the same position you are now in a year or two. Poch was the right man before Ole but at this point they need a completely different approach to things. Poch isn't going to bring success to United, not now.

its going to take 4/5 years of rebuilding. all values of united is gone. Why not let rooney go in with help of experienced coach. he will bring back the values and im pretty sure no players will down tools on him

I agree that Poch is not the answer.
