Officially announced his retirement as a player as well at the age of 35.

Lets see how he does Derby certainly don't have the financial backing they did a few years back when they really should have got promoted he'll have to do a lot more work with youngsters and sort out some pretty poor disciplinary issues from off the field over recent seasons.

I'm surprised he's gone into management he never struck me as someone who would be up for being that front facing.

Keeps him out of his wife's firing line I suppose.

To be fair to her he's in the firing line for a bloody good reason most of the time.

She has been very forgiving of his behaviour.

Anyone seen the state they are in?

They've got 9 first team players. 2 of which are goalkeepers. They haven't got the money to pay the wages of anyone coming in. Rooney's injured one of their players in a 50/50 in training and he's out for 12 weeks and they have a suspended 3 point deduction hanging over them for late payment of wages.

Those girls who took those photos trying to get £10k out of him will be in trouble with the police imagine the shoe was on the foot and it was lads flashing their backside at a girl who was passed out drunk in a hotel room.

Derby are a mess their takeover fell through and they've got a transfer ban think they've been given permission to take a few free agents.

Not quite sure why he is partying with 21 year old girls, and as it turns out it’s caused issues. Obviously the girls shouldn’t have taken the pictures but with his rep he’s going to be seriously in the dog house. You just can’t let yourself get into these situations. And now he’s taken out one of his few players! Sure he’s has better weeks!

I think they have quite a few free agents on trial including Ravel Morrison. Must be odds on to go down this season after just surviving last.

Think it's widely known that he likes a night out and when he goes out he goes big probably went back with mates or hangers on and took the girls with them. His mates should really be looking out for him making sure the girls don't get a chance to stitch him up as that is what it looks like in the pictures.

They'd have to be favourites to go down this season they're in a right old mess basically gambled everything on promotion a few years back and didn't make it.

Clubs felt rotten for a while seems like there's a bit of a drinking culture players earning good money and don't really seem to take it seriously can see why Rooney joined them as a player thinking about it.

Won't have helped his reputation going forward probably end up managing Salford in the next 2 seasons.

Imagine the media backlash if 4 male footballers had taken a clearly battered girl back to the hotel and then embarrassed her all over Snapchat.

The double standard is atrocious these girls should be getting slammed by the media.

I'm guessing as he's reported it to the police that the press aren't really able to comment on it as they can't be seen to interfear.

The girls involved are reported to be 21 years old they've made a mistake they've made an apology in one of the papers so my guess is that Rooney will probably drop the complaint no point ruining peoples lives over a stupid mistake. Sounds like the apology came out quickly after reports of potential blackmail against him if that has happened those girls should be getting in trouble with the law.

Well for it to be a fair comparison it's 4 normal lads getting a famous female back to their room and taking some silly photo's on Snapchat.

Rooney's in his mid 30's now he should know better than to get himself in these sort of situations where people could take advantage of him in this way that's my only issue with it. His personal life and what he gets up to is his business between him and his family.

Derby going into administration.

Club will face a 12 point deduction and further points deductions could follow for not meeting EFL financial rules that case is still under review.

Another club that dared to dream but are paying the ultimate price for reckless spending by an owner.

They owe the tax man £26m.

Hard to see them finding a buyer.

Derby hit with another 9 point deduction.

Really doing an amazing job at Derby. They basically had no players, then the points deductions but they keep plugging away and fighting.

2-0 up against Sheffield Utd currently. Without the points deduction they would be six points off the play offs. Still got a real mountain to climb to avoid relegation but as you would expect Rooney has them fighting and scrapping for every point.

Couldn’t do the impossible in the end but Rooney’s reputation has certainly gone through the roof. The fact that they were still fighting until the weekend when he had no players, no budget and a points deduction was incredible.

Been doing a great job and after relegation said all the right things he wants to stay and lead them back up if he’s given the chance under the new owner.

The fans love him would be great to see him spend a few years there and bring them back up to the championship as there’s big clubs in league one now so nothing guaranteed.

Wonder if Wayne would want to get his foot in the door at Old Trafford and replace Neil Wood as the u23 u21 Manager.

The statements suggest he's going to take a bit of time away from football to focus on family.

Been a tough year for the Rooney's he's obviously had all this turmoil at Derby and his wife has been through a libel case in court so might be time for them to take a bit of a step back.

Saw that friendly against Leicester and thought nah! don't want to have to shake Vardy's hand

Only a rumour but I've heard Wayne is knocking football on the head because he fancies himself as a bit of a singer and he's going to try and get himself a record deal.

Can see the headline now "Rooney up for a Grammy" and it not being a missprint.
