Future Prospects: Fabio – The Other Twin

By G@mb!t

Fabio Da Silva is still known to many as Rafael’s brother or the Other Twin at Manchester United. When the twins joined Manchester United in 2008, Fabio was considered the better player, he was very highly rated at the time and considered the more talented of the two. Rafael himself has admitted that his brother happens to be the better player.

After two seasons at the club, Rafael has gone on to establish himself as Gary Neville’s successor and also become a huge fan favourite because of his enthusiastic performances on the field. Fabio on the other hand has been suffering with injuries and happens to play as a left back, where United have probably the best Left back in the world playing currently in Patrice Evra. Therefore whenever Fabio did happen to remain fit, there was Evra playing at his usual and consistent best.

Fabio like his brother is naturally Right footed, originally a right back, he moved over to the left to allow his brother into the team, is equally good with his left foot as well. Fabio though can play as a right back as well, as he did earlier last season when Sir Alex played him due to injuries to Neville, Rafael and Brown. Fabio has all the traits of a typical Brazilian full back, he has pace, aggression, excellent technique, flair and a desire to run down the wings from defence to support attacks. Fabio is also adept at taking set pieces too.

With the new season fast approaching, it may be the season he shows everyone why he was the more highly rated twin. With Patrice Evra just returning from what can be called a very turbulent World Cup for him, Fabio can stake a claim for the Left Back spot, especially in the pre-season and maybe the first few games of the new season, which Evra is likely to miss, as he really looks in need of some rest. But Fabio faces competition from O’Shea and the ever improving De Laet for the position of Evra’s backup.

So let’s hope the coming season allows Fabio to show us his best, and if he manages to do so, United might be the team with the two best Full backs in the world.
