The 20 PL clubs are all in the top 30 richest clubs in the world thanks to the shared TV deal so they’re not going to sell of their best players cheap simply because they don’t have to.

If you are buying in the domestic market now you will be paying top prices it really shouldn’t be a surprise.

Van Dijk 75m
Lukaku 75m
Siggurdson 50m
Walker 50m
Stones 50m
Mahrez 65m

All these deals done in the last 3 summers if the top clubs want to take players from smaller clubs unless you can exploit a contract situation or a team gets relegated you will be paying sky high prices.

If we know that how can it surprise our chief exec? You hope this story is just nonsense.

They just regurgitate stories from newspapers I don’t think they’re reporting this as insider knowledge and Woodward is an easy target for getting Utd clicks.

I don't think it is true Woodward might be a bit naïve when it comes to the transfer market but he's a relatively successful investment banker so he isn't a complete idiot.

I'm stunned, where did palace get 50m for AWB from, 80m for Maguire, 70m for Fernandes. It's crazy, these players have done nothig to earn those fee's. I suppose Maguire has won the prem.

they should be 25, 50, 25

It's pretty simple really Kyle Walker moved from Spurs to City for £50m, Mendy from Monaco to City for £50m, Mendy from Lyon to Madrid for £50m. Now AWB isn't in that class of player yet but he's a very important player for Palace and he's tied down on a long contract. Player sales is basically asset trading AWB is probably Palace's second most valuable asset and they don't want to sell him so if you want to buy him you have to pay above what he's worth. It would be like trying to buy a house that isn't for sale you could make an offer to the owner knowing the house is worth £200k but if he doesn't want to sell it you will have to pay him more than the market rate to convince him.

Maguire did not win the Prem they signed him after they won the league he wasn't even their the season they were in the CL.

Fernandes is just a classic Portuguese club desperate to sell a player trying to get big bids we've seen it all before I doubt anyone will end up paying it because he's way over valued off the back of 1 amazing season.

so Maguire to go down to 35m then. :p

BTW, Kyle walker was a class palyer at spurs for a few season. He was probably worth it, Don't know about the Mendy's.

As for Fernandes, a joke for sure. And I agree that Portuguese clubs have no idea on valuations.

Portuguese clubs normally try to sell players at set buyout clauses and basically all of them rely on player sales to survive they buy in vast quantities from all over the world develop as many players as they can then sell on for as much as they can and start again. Benfica have just scooped 120m euro from Atletico Madrid for Felix a player who's played 1 season of top level football.

Sporting are trying to cash in on Fernandes because they did a deal with the player last summer where he agreed to stay one more season when a number of the players walked out of the club because of the attack on the players by fans if you remember that happening. The story is Fernandes has an agreement where if the club reject an offer this summer in excess of 35m euro the club have to pay him and his agent 5m euro the club have told his agent the player can go but go and get as much as you can for him. When a player from a Portuguese club is up for sale the number of stories linking that player with anyone and everyone is mad basically if you say he's a 70m player enough times they hope someone will pay 70m for him seems to be the theory.

Utd had it for years with players like Gaitan and Garay from Benfica we never made an offer for either but for years every window we'd be linked with them constantly. City this summer actually put out a brief to journalists saying they have no interest in Fernandes to get their name away from that story Utd haven't done that which is why City don't appear linked to him anymore.

The issue is all Prem clubs are now very rich so they don't have to sell to survive, they can also pay good wages so they do lock players down on longer contracts and they know there are 6 potential clubs they can sell to at top prices on the doorstep. If Utd don't pay the price this summer chances are someone else in the big 6 will next summer and they don't need the cash because of the TV money.

It's not really that different to the way it was 10-15 years ago Utd had to break records to sign Rio, Rooney, Berbatov they paid a big fee for Carrick as well it's the cost of doing business close to home. The only difference now is the numbers are bigger.

There is no real logic to judging a players worth the only question is do Utd think AWB is good enough to improve our starting XI if the answer is yes then you basically have to accept you'll pay whatever Palace are willing to sell for the selling clubs now hold the power as long as they have the player under long contracts.

thats the thing, I'm not so sure, I'd leave it another season and give Dalot a go. He's had one decent hasn't he?

Honestly he shouldn’t be stunned, it’s like going to Amsterdam and being stunned by seeing prostitutes. This is the modern football world, even inexperienced players are going to cost top dollar. Prices obviously get inflated when you want someone from an English club because like I’ve said before they have no obligation to sell. I think we just have to accept that any player now is going to come at a premium.

If they're thinking spend £50m on AWB then my guess is they saw enough of Dalot last season to say he's either not making it or nowhere near ready he'd only played about 10 games for Porto when we signed him and as a RB I wasn't that convinced by him last season but he never really looked fully fit.

I keep saying it but with Europa League we really should be playing him along with other young players in all those games plus league cup games next season to get him some playing time at right back. I think when we did the deal for Dalot he should have gone straight out on loan somewhere for this season even stay at Porto to get some playing time but I think Porto were a bit p*ssed that we took him.

The thing is though if the plan was to sign AWB why have we given Ashley Young another £120k a week contract? Surely Dalot is an able back up?

He's also the backup left back if AWB comes in.

AWB & Shaw will be first choice specialists the other two are capable of playing on either side.

I also think Young was given a contract to retain some experience in the squad same reason why Mata got a deal.

I went to Amsterdam and I was stunned by seeing prostitutes. They were in window displays like cakes in a cake shop. One of them in a fringe white bikini grabbed my arm and pulled me inside the doorway. I escaped. Not sure if I should say "luckily" or "unfortunately".
