United buy Nobby Stiles's medals: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-11630764
Great that we've done this. Nobby was on BBC News this morning, said he was selling as he couldn't decide who in his family to give them too and i've just read the link and the quotes are there so this last sentence was pretty pointless.
I think the club should help all these former players just to avoid that situations like this happen again. I know it's not a problem that the club has to solve and wouldn't be so simple to do, but I think, even so, the club should help, directly or indirectly. It's so sad see these players being "forced" to lose part of their memories to support themselves and their families.
Well done United. Keeping the medals in the United family and helping out a Red legend into the bargain. A much better use of the clubs resources than they have been put to recently. It's a shame that he's in a position where he needs to sell them, but at least they'll go in the museum, where they can be shown to anyone who wants to see them.
