Manchester Under-21s travel to Liverpool on Friday - Official Manchester United Website

Manchester United's Under-21s look to build on the opening day win against Norwich City when facing Liverpool at Anfield on Friday night, live on MUTV.
The Reds won at the ground last season in the semi-finals of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League when Andreas Pereira struck the only goal of the game. The 18-year-old is likely to be involved again but there are question marks over James Wilson's participation, although he has returned to training with the first team after injury.

A 3-5-2 formation was deployed from the start for the first time at Leigh Sports Village, although Guillermo Varela switched from wing-back to the middle of the defence to replace Sean Goss, who initially lined up alongside Paddy McNair and captain Tom Thorpe.

Warren Joyce's side have been impressive in recording victories by a three-goal margin over both neighbours City in the Manchester City Senior Cup final and the Canaries but look certain to face a tough test on Merseyside.

Liverpool won their opening game of the campaign, 1-0 at Sunderland on Tuesday, with Ryan McLaughlin's injury-time effort proving decisive.

Team: Pereira, McNair, Vermijl, Thorpe, Janko, Pearson, Harrop, Rothwell, Lawrence, Pereira, Evans

Liverpool: Ward, McLaughlin, Stewart, Williams, Jones, Rossiter, Wilson, Lussey, Ojo, Brannagan, Peterson.

Subs: Maguire, Vigouroux, Canos, Pelosi. Yesil.

If Wilson was playing we'd have gone 1-0 up there. Lawrence was in but didn't quite have the pace to go 1 on 1 with the keeper.

Joel Pereira earnt us a point tonight. Very good performance from him. As has often been the case with the U21s we missed a proper striker tonight. Certain he'd have gone and scored had he been in Lawrence's place for that play I talked about above. He would have offered our midfielders a lot more too.

Warren Joyce confirmed after the game that he's with the first team. Along with others, he's been training with the first team.
