Manchester United kick off the defence of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League title with a trip to Leicester City on Monday night, with the action live on MUTV.

Warren Joyce's side perform at the King Power Stadium, scene of a 1-1 draw towards the end of last season, when Sean Goss struck his first goal at this level. Goss, fresh from involvement on Tour 2015, presented by Aon, could be available but Ben Pearson and Joe Rothwell have departed for Barnsley on loan.

Joyce has had a shortage of defenders and strikers in pre-season, which contributed to a lack of victories in the games and a Lancashire Senior Cup exit to Rochdale on penalties. Ashley Fletcher continues to provide goals in attack while Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Tim Fosu-Mensah were integrated into the starting line-up in the friendlies.

"The new season presents a fresh challenge and it will be difficult this time around with a young, unbalanced group and a shortage of players in certain positions," explained Joyce.

"For sure, this year will be a hard one, probably in terms of results, but it should prove ideal as an appropriate test for the lads at their age level. I expect a lot of tough times for the players, although they will learn plenty about themselves, what their role is in the team, the various systems and how United should play."

Live U21s coverage starts on MUTV at 18:30 BST. MUTV is broadcast in the UK & Ireland on Sky channel 418, Virgin Media channel 526 and UPC channel 428.

Hopefully likes of Januzaj, Pereira, Wilson, Blackett and McNair get run outs. Someone like Hernandez, if he's going to be immediate backup to Rooney, could do with minutes too.

Had forgotten we still had Varela. Superb goal. Hopefully can settle with us now. Zidane was a big fan of his last season apparently.
