Manchester United are ready to make a new move for Spanish hot shot David Villa - if he goes up for sale at Valencia in the summer.
United chief Sir Alex Ferguson sent brother Martin - his top European scout - to watch Villa net twice against Getafa as the Old Trafford club updated their dossier on the superstar.
Ferguson wanted Villa last summer but his £45 million price tag put the deal off. However Dimitar Berbatov's indifferent form has left the door open for a top-flight striker to join for next season.
Villa could be open to offers if Valencia fail to reach the Champions League and decide to cash in. For all of their troubles the decision to keep him has paid off this season.
United have funds to buy the right players - although there are reservations about Villa's age and future sell-on value. However if he comes on the market at the right price Ferguson will be in.
Villa has opened the door to a potential move to an English club after the World Cup finals after angling for a preferred switch to a Spanish giant last summer.
