Marcos Rojo match discussion thread for the 2014/15 season.

Germany - 3/9/2014

Impressed with Rojo tonight. Played at left back, looks very comfortable on the ball but you can see his centre back credentials, his tackling looked good and he seems quick.

Agreed. Went a bit under the radar what with Di Maria's performance but did very well. Great for him to get a game too, don't think he'd played since the World Cup.

Hopefully gets his work permit sorted now and can make his debut against QPR.

Qpr - 14/9/2014

Solid debut. He was aggressive, strong and confident in possession. Seems to have a good understanding with Di Maria.

Looking forward to seeing him at centreback.

Understanding with Di Maria probably reason he played on left rather than CB. Blackett and Evans at CB made sense too as they can communicate with each other as they both speak English where as Rojo currently doesn't.

So many debuts today that it's been hard to praise everyone. They were all good. Falcao hype took pressure off everyone. Disappointing day for Shaw, probably would have come on but for Di Maria getting cramp again.

Leicester City - 21/9/2014

Very poor today, in both attack and defence.

Yeah he wasn't good. Not entirely sure what his best position is. Might take time adapting to this league

Thought all the new lads apart from Di Maria looked a bit shocked how quick the game was after last week. Herrera adapted well to it in 2nd half I think.

I like her rear. Di Maria is world class. Rooney has much to prove but he does need settling in time. In January central defence is the top priority.

Predictive text is killing me tonight. There is a time and a place for talking about her rear. That should say herrera.

Haha brilliant booth.

Yeah defence needs sorting. Think it's something that can be fixed on training ground as well though in mean time.

I am not sure it can be fixed but it can be improved. Getting and keeping them fit would help

West Ham United - 27/9/2014

Good performance. Plenty of clearances and lead a young backline. He looks a centre back, who can fill in at left back.

He was good today. I thought he will have problems cause of never having played with either Shaw or McNair. But he lead them well.

Struggles with his right foot though? Maybe it was because sun was in his eyes but lot of poor clearances with his right. He can do better I think.

Chelsea - 26/10/2014

Not overly convinced with him so far, I would have Jones over him if it wasn't for injuries.

I thought he had a very good game along with Smalling to be honest.

He really doesn't convince me. The raw tools are there, the same way David Luiz has raw tools, but he just doesn't look like a defender.

Manchester City - 2/11/2014

Phil Jones like tackle and injury

Van Gaal:

"Marcos dislocated his shoulder but did it in positive way. We don't need to operate on him, which is a relief, but maybe with this injury it is very difficult that it shall not happen again. That is the problem. Yesterday evening, he saw a specialist. For him, it was positive. Always with these injuries, I cannot change that. The human body has been made by God, not by me. Conservatively, it can be less than six weeks. If we have to operate, 12 weeks."

Southampton - 8/12/2014

5 tackles, 7 interceptions, 9 clearances and a block. Staggering defensive stats. Passing not great but think Southampton played a part in that with their pressing.

I'm still on the fence. His lack of awareness is an issue, he's still young though and has the potential to develop. His ability on the ball is generally excellent, his distribution helps to increase the tempo of play, especially at Old Trafford.

Southampton - 11/1/2015

Today's last ever Red Issue said that United coaches see Rojo and U18s captain Axel Tuanzebe as the future of our defence.

Qpr - 17/1/2015

He's the one CB we have that I really trust. Thought he was very good today, but for one moment with Carrick, great to have him back in my opinion.

Impressive performance. Good in the air and held his own against Zamora.

Cambridge United - 23/1/2015

Our best player I thought. Has all the raw attributes.

He looked up for it from minute one. Determined not to let himself get bullied and in general his passing is better than the other defenders

Yeah, he was good, especially in the first half. He likes to get stuck in, alright.

Funnily enough his pass completion rate was lower than Jones'.
