Kieran Trippier

That doesn't seem like a very Ole at United signing though? Strange one to be honest. Are they giving up on AWB then?

Trippier is 30. And he's playing in a side that is top of the league. And he's a Man City cast off. And he's overrated.

So for all of those reasons, I'm sure Ed will sign him.

I think he's a good right back but would be an odd position to strengthen.

Not sure why they'd sell him from what I hear he's doing pretty well out there and we've got enough right back options.

He's been assisting no end this season at Atleti, something none of our current L or R backs would even know what that word means.

I can understand the thought behind it, AWB needs some competition. And some lessons on going forward.

AWB is fine going forward I think people play on that way to much.

Where AWB really needs to improve is learning where to stand especially when crosses come in from the other side he’s got great recovery skills but he’s to reliant on them because his positioning isn’t good. Probably because he’s only recently converted from a winger to a right back.

You clearly haven't been watching many Utd games since he joined us. You must be the first person I have EVER heard come out with that!

AWB is very poor going forward.

Judged against some incredibly attacking full backs who can't defend TAA, Walker or James then yeah he's not at that level but he's as good going forward as any back back we've had since Rafael & Evra.

I didn't say he was spectacular just said for a full back he's perfectly fine he puts in ok crosses often to strikers who are terrible in the air, he's able to beat his man one vs one to create the crossing angle, he can play one two's round the corner.

He's far from Dani Alves in his prime but he's competent enough from an attacking point of view.

Trippier has a much better cross on him than AWB no one is going to deny that he's a dead ball specialist after all but AWB reminds me a lot of the younger version of Kyle Walker it's all still a bit wild and needs work but the raw materials are there to develop.

I remember time after time watching him look up in a good position out wide and not having a single player to aim at in the box so what is he supposed to do. Also, the way we attack it's hard for him to get to far forward because we give the ball away so much he doesn't want to leave himself constantly facing a 70 yard sprint back towards his own goal to try and stop a counter attack.

AWB does get out of position a fair bit too, you're rating him because he is excellent at runnning back and getting his legs around a player and that always looks fantastic. But he gets into that position way too much.

I literally said this in my previous post if he knew where to stand he wouldn't end on his backside making recovery tackles 5 times a game.

Good defenders don't need to go to ground because they've dealt with the situation before it even emerges look at players like Rio in his prime he'd took the ball of the striker before he even knew what he was going to do with it.

Banned for 10 weeks by the FA for gambling.

Sign him up Ed!

Had his ban suspended by FIFA after Atletico appeal.

Case will be reviewed by FIFA committee so Trippier is free to play again.

Had his ban upheld by FIFA.

Ban applies to all football so isn't even allowed to train with his team mates because of he told his mates he was moving club and they stuck a bet on it.

Few whispers again today that he’s on Utd’s radar for a right back signing this summer as competition for AWB.

The suggestion is he's open to the move.

I think he's a good player but I'm not sure the move makes sense for United. I thought Ole wanted starters? And also they need CB, DM and RW more than RB.

I think he could push past AWB for a starting spot. I like Tripper, good player

The Sun is claiming (!) we intend to play AWB at CB - have to hope the Sun is making this up because it would be a disaster, if you ask me. He gets caught out of position so often and plays opponents onside time and time again...

Reminds me of the Telles signing to be honest add a bit of depth/experience to the squad and push the younger player.

Trippier can play on both sides if needed but very much favours the right side.

Suggests to me that Dalot and possibly Williams would move on this summer if the rumours are true.

Can’t see AWB going in as a centre back yes he’s got the athleticism and is fantastic one vs one but on the ball not good enough and in the air not good enough.

He should be focusing on just becoming a better right back and sign a proper Centre Back.

If you're going to move AwB somewhere you'd think DM might be worth a go due to his tackling and he whole 'Thou shall not pass' thing, until you remember his lack of positional sense would be a nightmare.

Don't mind Trippier so long as the money is reasonable and isn't instead of another area of need.

Again ability on the ball becomes a big problem in that area.

Just let him be a right back pocketing the opponents wide player think the main reason for another RB is so he’s kept fresh and also if we are chasing goals having another right back that offers better delivery could be a benefit.

I totally agree, and for the record, I'm not suggesting he should be moved anywhere. If we need a CB, buy a CB. If we need a DM, buy a DM. However, just for giggles, Makalele was useless on the ball. Kante isn't much better.

You ever watched those two play football? Their short passing is excellant as is the close control no point winning the ball back all the time if you just give it away again what makes those two so good is once they've won it they make sure they release it quickly to their team mates. The art of playing that role is being able to take the ball under pressure and not lose it.

Can't knock the rest of it you don't buy a screwdriver to dig a hole in the back garden buy the right tools for the right job and you'll make your life a lot easier.

I did. They had ridiculous passing stats because they won the ball and quickly played a short pass to one of the playmakers. AWB is getting better at the close control/getting out of trouble down the line part of the game and I think he could do a job in there. Again, not advocating for it, just musing.

40m is his release clause so if that’s their stance we won’t be going near him.

I assumed the links were doing the rounds because they were willing to sell but that price suggests they aren’t interested in selling.

This does seem strange as rb is probably down at 5th most important area that needs improving.
sancho i think will be done and i would really want a quality defensive midfielder
if they can stretch to a quality cb i wouldnt grumble but cant see 3 signings this summer,2 at most
