What do people see in Lingard? Other than a player who will run a lot. He's got a place in the squad maybe but he's a useless technical player.

I think he's a useful player when you want to sit back and play counter attack from the start which in reality should be very few games a season for a team like Utd.

Saw something saying his contract is up in 2 years time if I was Utd I'd be looking to sell him this summer and use the money towards buying someone who can be a starter on the right of our attack.

For me he's a guy who should be playing 30 games a season mostly off the bench and starting only when we have injuries/suspensions he's nowhere near the level required to be a front 3 player in a top side his goal and assist output is pathetic.

He's a clever player who's movement allows him to link well with other players but he's not really got a position he's nowhere near creative enough to be a wide forward or number 10 he's probably best playing as a number 8 but we never use him in that role it's where he played in the world cup but even then he's not fantastic in that role.

I don't thik we should be selling him. Not in the phase we are going through.

In the long term you need to be looking for better players, but selling an acadamy player, who has been at the club for so long doesn't make much sense. And if we are targeting young, and especially British, players, i think he would be good in the dressing room.

He's just going through a bad phase which inflates people's opinion of how bad/good he is.

Thing is if we want to keep him he needs a new contract and at 26 or 27 that will be a 5 year deal on very good money I say bite the bullet now and move on.

He seems a popular guy in the dressing room but you can’t carry people at the very top you need to deliver on the pitch.

Think he’s had 5 seasons around the first team now and he’s had 1 or 2 good spells of form it’s just not enough you can’t keep rewarding failure.

I’d rather sell buy someone who’s first team ready then give some of the academy lads the chance to be squad fillers Lingard for me doesn’t do anywhere near enough.

At his age he needs to be someone leading this team and being a key part he’s in his prime it’s step up or get out time for him and he’s got this season to show it.

EFL Cup: Manchester United 1-1 Rochdale - 25th September 2019

I forgot that he was playing in the first half.

Premier League: Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal - 30th September 2019

He has perfected the art of being a nothing player.

I think Neville made a good point last night, he’s a good 16 or 17 in a squad but when he is asked to be the main player in a first choice 11 then he struggles. He is severely lacking confidence which isn’t helping but he looks shot to pieces. Would imagine he will struggle to get into the England squad for the upcoming International break.

That's one of my worries about ole. Does he think players like lingard , Pereira, even rashford are good enough or is he just trying to get the best out of them until they can strengthen

I really like Lingard but I’d be looking to move him on.

He’s not regularly at the quality that we need.

Think he wasn’t someone who needed to go now but I can’t see him persisting with them long term.

Replacements/upgrades have to come those boys might then go back to being squad players but if any of our youngsters develop they might get moved on.

Lingard like Periera not quick enough to be a winger, not strong enough to play in midfield, not enough flair to be a traditional number 10.

Both look mid table quality players.

Think Lingard is In the last 2 years of his current contract and there’s been talk of a new deal but he’s 26 now I think Utd should be open to offers and move on.

He runs around a lot and gets credit for it. But unlike when Park did that job for us there's no quality around him to make up for it.

I read somewhere that Lingard made no passes to Rashford against Arsenal. I find that hilarious.

He is terribly short of confidence and it makes him look horrendous. When he’s on form and confident he isn’t actually that bad but when he’s bad he’s worse than most. Think we need to think about moving him on but what takers would there be? He’s probably on a monster contract, are teams like Everton, Leicester going to pay him that much? Probably not.

Europa League: Partizan Belgrade 0-1 Manchester United - 24th October 2019

No point.

I mean Arsenal had a similar player in Iwobi they sold him to Everton for about £40m in the summer.

Do we stand a chance of getting anything like that?

I doubt it. There seems to be some idea that there rubbish players aren't that bad and that it's the club's fault. Whereas our rubbish players are just rubbish

He's not as bad as what peope are saying, but he's not good either. And he is in the middle of a run of bad form.

He's they type of player we should be using in cup games, and lower level teams. However we are a lower team at the moment because our squad is so bad.

He's a squad player if our squad is where it should be.

I'm not even sure he's a squad player if I'm totally honest I think in the 5 years he's been around the first team I think he's had 2 good spells of form. He's provided some massive goals and moments for us but he's 26 years old so there's unlikely to be anymore improvement.

IF the squad was stronger he'd be playing less and likely sold but we don't have enough players anyway Mata needs to go so probably need to keep hold of him for another few seasons which probably means he'll get another new contract so as long a he's prepared to accept the salary of a bit part players (probably £120k a week at Utd) then so be it.

I think we have to accept he's not a winger he's a number 10, Utd need to go and buy a top class number 10 (Maddison seems to be the target for the summer) but right now Periera/Gomes/Lingard for me are fighting to be that backup player next season. I think Gomes needs to be given a new deal and sent out on loan next season to play 30 plus first team games in a less challenging league which probably only leaves space for one of Lingard & Periera I don't really have a preference on them so I'd probably let it be known that both are for sale and see what sort of offers we can get.

With number 10 being such a specialist position I don't think you can really carry 3 of them in a squad unless they can also be effective in wide positions which Lingard just isn't.

Premier League: Manchester City 1-2 Manchester United - 7th December 2019

2 much improved performances and seems to be finding some form after the game in Astana.

He is much maligned, and deservedly so, but yesterday was the key link between midfield and attack. The front four (and the rest of the team) just clicked yesterday.

Yep he’s found form recently since that Sheff Utd game where he came on and made a difference.

We all know he’s probably not good enough but an in form Lingard can at least contribute something to the squad.

Ole admits Lingard has had to deal with off field issues in recent times.

Premier League: Watford 2-0 Manchester United - 22nd December 2019

Not a stat you would want to have his confidence must be shot when he hears those type of things

It's a problem position for us. They either need to buy a quality number 10 or change the system

I watch him and he does seem to cover a fair bit of ground but it's as if the game just passes him by, doesn't influence the game but that could be said about a few others too

shouldn’t be anywhere near our starting XI in these sort of games he’s hopeless thecreative hub of the team who contributes nothing in the majority of games he plays.

Who would you like to see come in, hopefully in the transfer window?

Messi haha!

I don’t watch enough football from outside the PL to know who we should be signing the one I think we should go for if we are sticking with 4-2-3-1 is Isco always liked him and I think we might be able to get him.

Personally with Pogba back I’d be sacking off that system going 4-3-3 and getting a better centre forward.

I think he will stick to the current formation and I'd like to see something in this next window and I'm sure he's got something in mind let's just see what happens

Premier League: Burnley 0-2 Manchester United - 28th December 2019

No goals or assists in 2019. Incredible.
