Premier League: Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-1 Manchester United - 19th August 2019

In the Premier League he apparently has 4 goals and 2 assists since May 2018. That’s awful.

Yeah I really don't think he's up to it he shouldn't be starting as often as he does for us but we are so short of options he'll get games.

He had that 1 stand out season a few years back which was really a few months where he scored bags of goals in a short period but his output for an attacking player is shockingly low.

He turns 27 this season so this is about as good as he's going to get not sure he's even worth keeping as a squad player as him playing means a kids route gets blocked.

Needs a big season otherwise I think they'll consider moving him on in all comps you want 10 goals minimum from an attacking player who starts regularly.

Premier League: Manchester United 1-2 Crystal Palace - 24th August 2019

United will struggle to break down teams with Lingard at 10.

Why is he starting? Why is he playing at 10? Makes no sense to me. He's not technically good enough to pull the strings there. He doesn't score or create goals or chances either really.

It's tough to throw young players in but to lot have Gomes on the bench at least for this game was criminal. He is the most likely to create something in a tight space

He’s just not good enough he should be your bench option not your starter.

No goals or assists in the league since December he’s a less productive Ji Sung Park.

Mata needs to be starting these games if he isn’t then why did we keep him?

The club obviously wanted a number 10 type when they went for Dybala when that didn’t happen why haven’t they looked elsewhere?

And he can play wide or as a 10 so can rotate and can flow with the others. We need creativity and he can offer that. So can Chong. Sure they are young but they need to be given a chance.

I think he's good enough, but not on current form.

Someone posted a comparison with Adam Johnson you know the guy who's been in prison for the last 3 years for touching kids.

In the last 6 seasons so basically since Lingard made his debut they've both played the same number of games and Johnson has more goals and more assists.

I understand there are off the ball things that Lingard does but the on the ball stuff just isn't good enough I always try and judge a player by this question. If he played for another team would you be saying we should buy him?

He's coming up to 27 now and I'm not sure he'd get into the starting XI for teams like Everton, Wolves or Leicester.

I agree, not on current form. Lingard from the WC would.

Lingard has had 6 months in nearly 6 years in the first team where he looked like he might make the grade that spell under Mourinho where he had a great run of form over the winter months but even that felt like a blip as it was like everything he hit went in more a lucky streak than a sudden step up.

Yeah he can still pull down Arsenal's pants every year but that's not enough to be a starter, Lingard is a squad player nothing more nothing less and we've got ourselves in a right mess to the point where he's starting games.

He's not on the needs to go now list like some of our players but bit like Shaw he was on the one last chance list and we shouldn't have planned to have him as a starter this season.

He will still be useful in big games where Utd can play on the counter but those games are few and far between and given the change in formation this side is crying out for a number 10 who can score and create and Lingard just isn't that player.

Oh yeah, long term he's not a starting 11. But at the moment, there isn't much else behind him. You're looking at Mata or Greenwood, and on his current form maybe one of those should have a shot. But he doesn't need much improvement to keep them out. Which says it all really.

I'd be starting Mata, Periera even Gomes ahead of him as the number 10 as he's offering nothing.

Periera, do me a favour. It's like playing with 9 when he starts.

Periera, do me a favour. It's like playing with 9 when he starts.

He setup a goal vs Chelsea and he gives us someone who can actually take free kicks and corners plus he's got long range shooting in his locker.

I'm no Periera fan but he's a specialist number 10 if we are going to keep him surely give him a chance in his actual position?

This isn't me writing off Lingard for 3 bad games at the start of the season it's been years of him struggling in these sort of matches where teams sit deep and stay compact he cannot make an influence.

I don't see why Lingard is playing ten. He doesn't create much or score goals which is key to that position. He doesn't have the technical ability or creativity to play a vital role in making things happen.

Premier League: Southampton 1-1 Manchester United - 31st August 2019

He was incredibly selfish in the 20 minutes or so he was on the pitch.

That shot he took when we got the break away that was blocked was pathetic we had a guy free on the wing and it was 3 vs 3 going into the box.

Says he wants the number 7 shirt now Sanchez has gone should be told if he wants it he needs to earn it as he shouldn’t be starting games at the moment. No one should be getting that shirt this season

If we want to move the number 7 to anyone I’d give it to next summers signing.

Given the performances of the players who’ve had it since Ronaldo I’d probably give it Lingard can’t make him any worse that number 7 has become a cursed number.

It adds pressure to players though from fans as being the number 7 makes you more high profile because the club have built this image around the iconic number 7 shirt.

That’s the reason Lingard wants it helps promote his brand.

I am not sying it's right, but he's had a week of heavy critism for not creating or scoring for 9 months or whatever. No wonder he was selfish.

He shouldn't listen to the voices for sure, but it must be hard.

Even more reason to ensure he played the right pass when on the pitch. He infuriated me on Saturday, always chose the wrong option. Perfectly highlighting his status as little more than a squad player.

To be fair I thought he made one bad decision which was his shot that was blocked as he had the man out wide his other shot that he curled just wide for me was the right choice as the angle was there for that but the one before he had to pass.

I mean with his stats should he even be considered a squad player? We used to think of a player like Park as a squad player but he'd be contributing a lot more than Lingard is in the games he played.

Let’s call a spade a spade, he’s bang average. Has his moments but the fact he starts most of our game is a poor indictment of our squad. Like jsp said could he even be considered a good squad player? He doesn’t really make goals, he rarely scores and beyond a purple patch a couple of seasons ago he’s been consistently poor and ineffective. Not even convinced he would start for a mid-table team to be honest (not that we are too far away from that!)

yeah long term he's no good. But at the moment we don't have much choice.

Kind of reinforces my point about Ole, all the people giving him a hard time, he has got so much squad work to do. Give him a break. It will be a poor season, get used to it and enjoy the highs. But keep supporting him and his project.

The only positive spin on the Ole project is rather than just patch everything up in the aim of getting 4th we maybe have gone for something a bit more radical and said you know what strip it back and start from scratch short term pain for long term gain.

The other way of reading the situation is slash the wage bill and get costs down which is more typical of how the Glazers operate their businesses.

Lingard wouldn't have survived as long as he has at a better run club if he was at a club that has been progressing like Liverpool or City he'd have moved on years ago as he just wouldn't have got the game time but with Utd being in a constant state of transition he's been able to cling on like a few others.

He wasn't a guy that needed to go this summer but over the next 2 summers he needs to be moved on as he just doesn't give you anywhere near enough.

I’m surprised at all the hate for Lingard. Like it or not he’s been one of our better performing players in the last 2 seasons.

Not really sure about that he gets a bit of a free ride because no one really expects much from him whereas they expect more from others so it's easier to let Lingard off the hook than it is with Pogba, Lukaku or Sanchez because they were the superstar names.

I don't mind Lingard, but his form is poor. I'm just highlighting for him to be selected (and others) shows our squad depth, so lets give Ole a break.
I hope he refinds his form, as well as Rasford etc.
