Maybe the fans will beat them to it. Going to be some trouble at this W.C. I reckon

Beckham, Scholes, Rooney. It's always United.

Part of me would prefer to see Rashford left at home, can't say I think he looks tired, but I don't think he's able to play to his full capabilities at the moment, think I read that no one in any of Europe's top 5 leagues played more than him in 2017, that's a big workload for someone so young. Think his playing time may be reduced in 2nd half of the season and it wouldn't be a surprise given form and probable fatigue.

Another good finish tonight.

Good to see Jose keeping faith with our youth products with Rashford, Lingard, Gomes and McTonimay all getting game time.

What is going on with Jesse Messi Lingard? Where are all these goals coming from? Another sublime strike again last night. Does he ever do tap ins?:)

Thing is he's always been capable of scoring, he scored 4 in a game for Birmingham once, he's simply doing it on a more consistent basis now. Newsflash young players improve and become more consistent as they get older. Fergie said he'd be a late developer and Lingard is currently proving his theory right. He's having the time of his life at the moment and it's great to see. He's got this immature schoolboy like personality but as a player he's really intelligent and works really hard.

Premier League: Newcastle United 1-0 Manchester United - 11th February 2018

He’s still grafting but the quality has dropped back to previous levels which was to be expected Messi Lingard couldn’t last forever.

Think if Herrera is fit by the time Chelsea come to old Trafford he might be the one who loses his spot.

Yeah, his level of performance has dropped off in recent weeks. Has he been playing slightly deeper to add another body in midfield?

If Jose is going to keep doing this 4-2-3-1 then Sanchez had to play where Lingard is playing now. He'd be so much more effective in that role then Lingard. Lingard hasn't managed to maintain them high standards but his work rate on the right would be more valuable then dropping him completely.

I think he looked deeper today possibly a decision made to try and protect Pogba a bit but it felt like the 4141 system we saw early in the season with Matic as the only player coming back into the defence for the ball. Lingard was the furthest forward of the central players as Pogba couldn’t sprint forward.

Issue with that is because the wide guys come in we become very narrow and it’s so congested.

I think we would’ve been better off with another midfielder today rather than Lingard today but with Herrera injured I can see why he tried Lingard just didn’t really work.

I think he’ll get the start against Sevilla at home. He’s always moving and offering something. On the ball he may not be at the level of Rashford/Martial. His off the ball work is so so much better

Premier League: Crystal Palace 2-3 Manchester United - 7th March 2018

If we are going to play high full backs like we did last night, is Lingard as a right full back actually a good idea to pursue with for the rest of the season? Cant deny the energy that guy puts on a pitch and I thought he kept the width well last night when he switched out there. It makes us more attacking and he has the legs that Valencia sadly doesn't have anymore. So by all means not long term. And not against Liverpool on Saturday. But until we get a new RB in the summer its got to be worth considering hasn't it?

Mint player of the season. Heart & work ethic. Seems to be the only one executing jose's game plan.

Can we stop converting wide players into full backs and sign some proper full backs or just play the actual full back we have haha!

I think he needs to be retained as an attacking option he's making a big contribution this season in key moments got a touch of the Park about him not always fantastic but pops up with vital goals in big games because he times runs so well.

My only worry with Lingard is he's not much of a wide player he's probably more of a number 10 which is a role Utd aren't always playing Mourinho seems to be keen on playing him at times on the right of the midfield 3 but I don't know if he's defensively switched on enough for that which is why McTominay has gone back into that slot recently and Herrera probably goes there when fit.

Like I said when I made the point it's not a long term option.

Look at it like this, we've got potentially a 2 legged CL quarter final and a FA Cup semi. As well as Liverpool, City and Arsenal to play in the league. Valencia is slowing down, so why not keep him fresh for those games and not play him in the rest of the league games and Brighton in the cup?

Don't swap him out for Darmain or Lindelof because we need an attack minded right full back. Why not get Lingard to do that role for what 5/6 games keep Valencia fresh until we buy a right back in the summer. It makes sense to me.

I seem to remember he started at right wing back in van gaals first game but got injured after 15 minutes

Or we play Young at right back and Shaw at left back?

I'm not a huge fan of his but use Darmian he is a specialist right back after all if we need to rotate.

The Lingard to RB thing is an option when he's already on the pitch and we want to throw the kitchen sink at a team for the last 10 minutes but I can't see the logic for using it from the start because he's not really a wide player anyway. All his best games come when he plays central and when he plays wide he doesn't go down the line he comes inside so he's not really giving you anything, you need your full back to go down the outside which is why Young is frustrating as he doesn't want to go outside on his left foot he actually looks better at right back.

If we get to the point where we can rest players in the league because top 4 is sorted I'd rather they play Darmian because it might actually get some interest in him in the summer.

I'd be putting Shaw in at left back every game now and then rotate Young/Valencia as the right back to keep them fresh.

Playing Shaw at left back over young is what we all want. But the fact of the matter is that at this moment in time for whatever reason, Jose sees Young as his first choice left back. So his not going to rotate him at right back however much we all think he should.

With Darmain I think from reading various sources the interest back in Italy is firm. That's going to happen if he plays or not. There's no shop window with Darmain his worth what his worth and it's whichever Italian side fancies him will take him but that's happening.

With Lingard in that role. His very much going to be like I said, playing against the easier sides in our run in. So his going to be very attack minded and hopefully playing in that final third more often then not. It's just an idea to keep Valencia fresh. Monday night highlighted to me just how much his struggling to get back in that role now. And we should be protecting him as much as possible.

So put the backup right back in don't put our best goal scoring midfielder in at right back surely we want Lingard just as fresh as Valencia for the big games as these tend to be the ones he thrives in.

We've really got to sort these full backs out this summer next thing we'll have Sanchez going back in at full back because Shaw found an all you can eat buffett in town.

Haha!

Lingard isn't a starter though is he? I think his done great this season. His proved me wrong on so many occasions. But long term his going to a super sub isn't he? His a game changer.

And the back up right back is no better at growing a beard then he is at football. So the choice isn't great. so surely all ideas need to be looked at untill we go out and sign Sidibe hopefully.

Don't think I'd start Lingard, he seems to do better coming on, seems one of the only players we have that can actually change our game if we are off.

I'd start Rashford, who could terrorise on the break, with Martial and Sanchez.

Rest Lukaku, although I'm not sure he's mentally strong enough for something like that.

Can we all agree his an impact player now? Not a starter. But A game changer with his energy and willingness to chase. His had a great season if they still do the most improved player award he'd get it hands down. But he doesn't have enough about him to start the big matches.

I think he's a number 10 not a winger.

He's also a player like Park who I think is suited to the bigger games where it's a bit more open rather than games where we are just trying to break down a team at home as he doesn't really create chances for himself or others what he has become is a player who arrives just at the right time and scores.

I was suprised to see him start on Tuesday but if Mata was tired after the Liverpool game I understand the logic but I don't see why it wasn't a like for like change just give Lingard the same freedom coming in off the right that Mata had and leave everyone else where they were on Saturday.

Lingard to me is in that group of players who are good but not great players and they're players who could be upgraded but he's low down on my list of players who need upgrading. The focus for me is improve the starting players before we improve the squad players.

I don't think Lingard has the ability to be an effective No.10. He's not intricate enough, his game is spinning/turning and running at defenders. You can't do that from No.10, same as why Pogba isn't a 10.

To be honest I'm not even sure what his best position is. I'd prefer him RM/W rather than no.10 I think

I don’t see him as a number 10 playmaker more a number 10 goal scorer more Ali than Ozil which is why I think he’s useful in games that are open as he’s unlikely to pick off a team sitting deep but in a game where there’s space he can be quite effective.

Yep quite agree there.

We don't tend to play too many teams that give us space tho. It's either 10 men behind the ball for the opposition or we're doing it!
