If you’re young and British you’re being linked with us.

Although for what it’s worth, out of all the young guys we’ve been linked with this is the one that would excite me most. I think he has terrific technical ability and I think has what it takes to make the step up, albeit with just one premier league season under his belt.

Started the season fantastically but dipped towards the end. But I agree it would be a good signing but you’re looking at a massive price. Leicester didn’t get him cheap.

Really liked him last season but shout out to the scouting department for finding another player who’s transfer value has trebled in 12 months.

If the club did cash in on Pogba he wouldn’t be the worst shout at a replacement on your door step.

Think actually this would be a really good signing for us. Young with good PL experience. A really good CM which is a big need for us.

Needs to add the killer touch which is goals if he wants to be considered as no doubt Leicester will be asking £75-80m again for him.

It's certainly a position we need to improve if we are going to play a 4-2-3-1 system then we need a player like Maddison to be the number 10 but I guess it may depend on how well Gomes does this season he was considered a top talent when he's been coming through the youth teams can he make that step up and take that spot this season?

Would love us to sign him. He's exactly the kind of player we should be looking at.

Do you spend £70m on Maddison or spend another £20-30m on the next Maddison who lights up the Championship this season?

Utd have got to start getting the scouts spotting this talent before clubs like Leicester get hold of them like they've done with James this season as the cost of buying them when they've already made the jump is ridiculous and not sustainable.

I think we can save a fortune if we just give Gomes a chance. Not saying he’s going to be amazing or anything like that but got to give the lad a chance.

At the moment I think Maddison is decent but not mega quality yet, he does need to add goals to his game and I think he is still quite wasteful. Would have been good to take a gamble at £20-30m in the Championship but Leicester would want ridiculous money now!

I think even if Gomes came through we'd still need another as you need a squad but yeah him breaking through either as the first or second choice option would be ideal.

Umm yeah I'd spend that on Maddison. Let other teams spend less on the next such and such. The approach Fergie took was to sign the top young talents from Premier League teams. At least then you know they can handle the league.

Fergie did it from a position of power though. We could afford to bed those guys in. Also do Pogba and Maddison fit in the same side? I feel the Maddison role is the role Pogba should be playing. No defensive duties just go out and play freely.

Very true but times were very different Utd were the big swinging dick in town we had the grip over the league in terms of finances like Bayern or PSG it's a different league now. Ignore the numbers but in 2009 Utd took Spurs best player Berbatov for £30m at the time a big fee, what would it cost to buy Spurs best player now and would they want to come? Sadly no.

Utd have got to box clever and get the right players I think Maddison certainly has the swagger to play for Utd but does he have the ability to handle the extra pressure? We probably wouldn't find that out until he came here.

Maddison for me would be a sensible buy but he's not a sure thing he doesn't score many goals but he does create a lot of chances but you're paying £70m for Maddison or £70m for Dybala who is more proven at the European level.

We all know Pogba will be leaving next summer if he does then there's definitely space for a player like Maddison but he is the luxury type midfield player and to be that player you need to have huge attacking outputs.

David Ornstein: "Some I have spoken to with links to all three parties [United, Leicester and the player's camp] feel the 22-year-old will move to Old Trafford within the next year."

How many United players get in a combined Leicester/United starting 11? And is Maddison one of the few that doesn’t? Surely it means losing Pogba?

Or is Pogba going to play in the middle of the 3 with Maddison ahead and McTominay behind?

Depends on the system 4-2-3-1 means Maddison behind the striker as the number 10 with Pogba in the 2 which is how he plays for France but reality is he will be a Pogba replacement because Pogba will be gone in the summer as everyone knows he doesn't want to be here.

My worry with Maddison is the outputs against the price he's going to cost £80m like Maguire for an £80m attacking player you want 40+ goals contributions a season (goals and assists). Top tier price for a player who is yet to be proven as top tier which is the gamble we face with everyone we buy.

For me if we're sticking with 4-2-3-1 a specialist number 10 who can score and create is vital and if Pogba does stay then it will give him another player he can find when he looks forward as currently we've struggled to get our number 10 on the ball and influence the game.

who is going to buy Pogba? Perez doesn't want him

Well I’d say there are 3 clubs Madrid, Juve and PSG who are options but for any of them to happen he needs to get fit show it on the pitch for Utd and dominate for France in the euros next summer. If he does that then offers might come but it’s a very small group of clubs who can go for him because of everything.

As for Maddison it feels like we are the only show in town for him can Utd use this to drive his price down but he’s got plenty of years on his contract so it willl be very tough to do as Leicester drive a hard bargain they set their price and stick to it. They did it with Mahrez and Maguire and both times they got what they wanted.

Please please please please. I'd love this move. Fits the bill in every way.

Good luck with that one.

Even I would have to lol at that one. It would be hard enough getting maddison anyway without throwing Jesse in as well.

Ridiculous bid if true. I know you go in low and wait for a counter offer but they will almost need to double that for a young English talent coming to us. His price tag for what he’s achieved so far really is what puts me off. Leicester paid £30m for him 2 seasons ago with no prem experience they’ll never letting him go for anything less than double that.

I’d expect Lingard to flourish in another team though. Especially a counter attacking Leicester side but they aren’t going to want him included in a deal.

Thing is Lingard is probably worth 30m as the market is that mad Iwobi went for around 40m last summer so Utd probably value that deal at 75m. What did Leicester pay for Pérez who looked pretty average at Newcastle?

its probably nonsense anyway.

I don’t see them wanting to take lingard anyway he’s not as bad as people make out but don’t think he really fits Leicester’s model of signing cheap and selling on.

Apparently he’s put off talks over a new contract with Leicester

Current deal runs to 2023 so Leicester are in no rush but talk is they’re prepared to match his wage to Vardy as top earner on a fresh 5 year deal. That would take him from £50k to around £120k a week but his agent is obviously aware that wages could be much higher elsewhere.

Leicester will be hard to talk into selling they held out for a long time on Mahrez and didn’t budge on their price for Maguire even though it was probably 50% above the fair market price.

Why on earth would he leave Leicester to come to us right now? He'd have to be mad.

Money and he’s a boyhood Utd fan would be two reasons but right now from a football point of view it’s a bad career move. If Leicester are offer £120k a week he can probably expect at Utd to earn 50% more than that which is very appealing to a player.

As it stands he’s surrounded by better players and working under a better manager.

Historically united finish above Leicester and that may not be the case this season it probably will fairly soon after. I am not just talking about united taking their players. When maddison sees the likes of chilwell and others going to city and liverpool he will quickly realise he should make the move

better manager? proven how? won nothing like Ole. Is higher up the league, as you say, because he has better players.

I wish you'd stop having a pop at Ole, he's doing as best as he can with a very poor squad. Our CM last night was Fred, Pereira and Lingard!

I agree Ole may not be the right the man, but he needs a chance FFS. Not this constant sniping all the whle he was the worst squad in the top half of the table. There are many teams below him with better squads. And Chelsea are only just above.

We have should have fielded a youth team as I suggested.

Well he won promotion from the Championship with Swansea and kept them up, won a bucket load of trophies in Scotland with Celtic (think he won every competition they entered) in style, finished second in the league with Liverpool (1 point behind the winner) until this season their best league campaign in 30 years. Rodgers isn't everyone's cup of tea as he's a bit of an odd ball but he's built 4 very impressive sides in the last 10 years Swansea, Liverpool, Celtic and now Leicester he's made a big difference at each club. You listen to players who've played under him and they say how good his coaching is even players like Gerrard who's worked with top managers are very positive about him and how he wants his teams to play.

I'm not having a pop I don't call for his head but like everyone players and managers deserve to be judged on their ability Ole is only in the job because he's an ex player Utd want the best players but they should also want the best managers and currently our manager has nothing on his CV that suggests he should be a Premier League manager let alone manager of one of the biggest clubs in the world. His job is made even harder by the fact he hasn't got a better structure above him which is why the playing squad he has is as bad as it is.

I will criticise the fact that having had these players for a year he still hasn't worked out how to beat mid table teams away from home your job is a manager or coach is to solve problems and yes you are restricted by the tools you have but at least try something different because the way he's doing it today is the same way he was trying to do it 12 months ago.

A better manager, one with the proven ability to build sides that play quality football, would get this squad playing better football. Imo, of course.

Absolutely yeah. The smart move is to stay put I think.

It’s all I’ve heard for the past 7 years. LVG was that better manager, then Mourinho was that better manager. This is the worst United side in the last 30 years. Things aren’t miraculously going to improve.

It needs time and patience. Too much short termism at the moment.

Also everyone is overlook the fact we’ve been missing our best player the entire season.

Who do you propose we bring in. Poch who got sacked for not being able to take Tottenham to the next level and replaced by our former manager? Never got anything over the line and players walking out on frees as they had enough of him?

Rodgers? Only ever won the league in Scotland. Proven he can get his team playing well from August-Christmas then always bottles in in the prem. Also former Liverpool manager. Sacked for not being good enough for them.

Simeone (my option if Ole were to build) but he’d come in and completely rip this squad apart and start again. He’d to begin with play very defensive football and many fans would hate him and get on his back.

Allegro has he got a great history of squad building? Made most of his reputation in a one team Italian league where I’d have trust on Pardew to win the title with Juventus.

I keep hearing about his proven manager with proven credentials. It doesn’t get much more proven than Mourinho and the fans hounded him out. They got what they wished for with the manager change and someone that understands the club and now it’s time to live with what you screamed and shouted for and stand behind the next manager that comes in after the previous one you got sacked. This continuous screaming for the managers head is tedious and needs to stop.
