Anyone else waking up in shock today that this trade has actually happened? What side do people think has come out on top? And can the Celtics finally push the Cavs off the top of the east now?

Cavs probably still to strong this year but if LeBron does leave for LA next season the east is wide open for them.

Cant believe how much the Celtics gave up to get Irving. Dont get me wrong his one of the elite point guards in the league. But the Cavs really did get the maximum for someone who wanted out. He gets to be a Neymar and be the face of a massive organisation but his not going to win a ring from there is he?

Did Irving sign the extension at the Celtics or will he be free to move again in 2 years?

I don't think he's getting a ring at Boston but luckily he already has one with Cleveland.

His still got two years left on that 60 million dollar contract so yeah in 2 years he can opt out and try get a max contract somewhere.

Feels like a big gamble on the celtics behalf no sign of a ring in 2 years he can go and chase a super max contract or find another team who just need that extra push.

Think it's a good deal for the cavs Thomas is a great replacement for Irving probably about as good as you can get, but will it give them much if/when Lebron goes again.

Watched a great ESPN show on Cleveland as a city and their huge drought in terms of a national championship. It's part of the 30 for 30 series.

It's probably the biggest personal achievement of LBJ that he won a national championship for his home state. Like you say they went along time without winning anything. So that is a massive tick off his career objectives. Behind the scenes it's gone very sour between him and the owner so the feeling is that this will be his last season in Cleveland. So for them to get a good future draft pick and Thomas in this trade is fantastic business from them.

The NBA is the same as any other sporting league, there's prestige sides that players want to play for. And despite how terrible they've been in recent season the Lakers are the pinnacle of that. LA want to land LBJ, Paul George and keep Lonzo Ball next season and appeal of that money and being the face of the Lakers will be too much for LBJ to turn down surely. So Cleveland have covered themselves well in this trade. Unlike Boston who have no guarantees Irving will wanna hang around long term anyway. Maybe they got the better player for now. But it's not enough long term.

Nice one, I'll have to have a look out for that show on ESPN.

Yeah it's known LBJ looks up to Kobe and he'd love to put the Lakers back on top as his kind of swan song, winning rings at 3 different sides as the star name would be a fantastic legacy, does anyone else have that accolade?

If he wants to stay in the east maybe he can finally sort out the knicks. Ha ha
