If not Solskjaer, then who?

I agree, lets get Allegri in, then sack him after 3 months and one transfer window, next summer we can get Poch, and Christmas we could get Rodgers. Summer 2021 we could get that months flavour of the month, and then christmas 2021 Rooney will probably be available.

Summer 2022 they might have made the machine where we can clone SAF, and then all those fans under 30 will be happy.

I’d like to refute this. It’s a lot of the older fans that are sack happy at the moment.

it was just meant to be a bit of fun to show how ridiculous it all is, and how ridiculous we are as a club.

Another bit of fun, every type gobshites in to google maps on android?

Just got to accept reality Woodward is going nowhere as long as the owners remain the same.

Rather than step aside and get help he's decided he needs to oversee whatever this new plan is so we will see how good a plan it is but I don't think he wants to sack another manager so he kind of needs Ole to improve the results.

People keep talking about Fergie having time but you have to remember when he took over Utd hadn't won the league in 20 years and he'd proven in Scotland that he could revolutionise a club.

This weekend actually marks the 4 year anniversary of Klopp taking over at Liverpool hasn't always been smooth sailing but you can see how quickly things can change when you get everything pulling in the same direction but I think it's fair to say their owners have a much more balanced approach to on and off field success.

When people mention fergie I don't think it's in terms of what he had or hadn't achieved before United, it was what he was achieving at united at the time. United fans wanted him gone and were chanting fergusson out. He probably couldn't have had any complaints if he had been sacked and in general there would have been no tears from united fans. Had Martin Edwards given in to that pressure who knows what would have happened over the next 20 odd years.

Campos and Allegri would be a start with VDS as CEO. Woodward is an overrated business person who has actually cheapened the brand by whoring it out.
In what way has Woodward ‘cheapened’ the brand exactly?

Wouldn’t be that excited about Allegri to be honest, it would be a big change to come over here. Sarri showed that it’s a leap from the Italian game to the English. He wouldn’t be a guy I would say gosh yeah he’s going to change it all.

Campos 100% agree with.

So make a compelling case for Ole to stay? I take your point that this will go on forever at this rate but make a case for him to stay?

Conte and Ancelotti won in their first seasons. Woodward has cheapened the brand by letting anyone partner with us for the sake of money and allowed the club to go to shit from an infrastructure perspective which impacts results on the pitch.
Hes also not that great a businessman. He merely sold Sir Alex's legacy and bought in a lot due to recency bias. The Adidas deal was agreed the season after we finished 7th, but the 5 years preceding that season saw us win 3 titles and lose the other 2 by a single point and goal difference respectively.
We also reached 2 Champions League Finals in that period along with winning the League Cup twice and reaching 2 FA Cup semi finals. Look at the intervening 6 years. From Champions to only making the top 4 on 2 occasions and only 3 trophies + 1 FA Cup Final to show for it. This weakens our hand and due to the # of smaller sponsors we have, the chance to "sweat the asset" is greatly diminished.

So who do we partner that is just ‘anyone’? Most of our partnerships are strategic with companies all around the world which has helped us achieve growth in certain areas. Woodward is not a football man but he’s a very good businessman.

Also Conte and Ancelotti did achieve success in their first seasons but were not able to maintain it. We don’t need someone to come in and do okay for a bit and tail off.

An interesting stat this.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, by two, earned more points in his first 29 Premier League games as Manchester United manager than Jurgen Klopp did at Liverpool.
Solskjaer's 14 wins and seven draws just edges 13 wins and eight draws.

Yeah the issue with the comparison is that Klopp had up and down results through that period and he instantly implemented his style on the team it was obvious what he wanted to do whereas Ole has had this weird feast and famine situation where he has some of our best ever winning records but also some of our worst records and we still can't see what the plan is.

If Ole had been having a mixed bag of results he wouldn't be under as much pressure but instead he's had this ridiculous start followed by this massive crash which makes you think everything is heading downhill rather than heading uphill.

Ole needs to do something to bring that original new manager bounce back. Just seen a stat doing the rounds on Skysports. Ole vs Klopp first 29 games in charge. Ole has 49 points. Klopp had 47.

Things don’t happen in an instance.

EDIT: Just seen this is being discussed already above. Thought I hadn’t seen this thread used in a few days when looking for it!

Do you think he can bring it back?

A lot of those games we won early on were close games there were a few where we did really show up and blow teams away Cardiff (a), Huddersfield (h) (both teams were relegated) & Chelsea (FA Cup) but there were plenty of close games that went our way.

It's that did teams work us out? did we run out of steam? was it just the pressure lifting?

It's not always that simple a decision was made to weaken the playing squad over the summer to start a rebuild clear out some players who were a problem and bring a few new faces in but we aren't really seeing the blue print of what he wants the final product to look like.

For example why did we swap from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 over the summer? If 4-2-3-1 was the plan why didn't he put it in place straight away? Why didn't we sign a specialist number 10 in the summer as without a quality number 10 that system won't work.

Spot on bud. Klopp had a style and you could see what he was trying to do. The vast majority of Oles points came in his first 15 games and after that it's been dross.

Does that mean if they ask him he will say yes? Or is he saying Poch has already agreed a deal for next summer? Who is Pedulla and how reliable is his information?

Conte, Allegri, Poch... I don’t really pay attention to who the managers are in other leagues, so who is 3rd best (if Klopp and Pep are the top 2)? I have no idea but if there is someone who is still viable, who can play in the current way (not LVG, not Jose) - we should be handing him a blank check.

But who is it?
How far down the top managers list do United go before it becomes diminishing returns? 7th best in the world? 12th? I know Ole isn’t doing great but he does have us close to CL spots in the toughest league in the world.

Pedulla is a journalist in Italy and is one of the better sources out there so if he mentions something there is definitely an element of truth in it.

If Ole was to leave (I don’t think he will this season) then Poch will of course be right up there as the contenders. Right now I think if Ole left tomorrow it would be him or Allegri that would come in.

there is no stand out person around a the moment. Might as well just stay with, and have trust in, the current plan.

If Ole left tomorrow Pochetino isn't an option. He'd forfeit £14m in compensation to take the United job and that just isn't going to happen.

No point changing anything now next 2 months probably decide if he continues next season but Utd must prepare a backup plan.

Nothing will really change with the muppet bankers running the club.

He needs next season, and I'm pleased the club has said he has regardless of where we finish. He needs a couple of windows more.

Poch should be brought in without doubt. He won't take us to the title but I think he could put us back on the right track. And bottom line that's what we need. There's no going from where we are to title contenders in a year or two. I think it'll be at least 4 years before this team is anywhere near a legit contender.

I'm just scratching my head this morning can't bear to see the club we all love and continue to support slowly being choked to death by the people who run our club

I don't want Saudi ownership, but it's getting to the point where i'd take it.

So he's been given the vote of confidence... Which means he's under threat of losing his job.

I don’t think he’s under imminent threat but if we collapse like a pack of card and get knocked out of all the cups and slide down to 9th/10th in the league then it has to be looked at. I’ve been a fervent supporter of Ole but there comes to a point when you think hmm maybe he’s not the man. He’s done a great job of getting rid of some of the deadwood, he’s promoted youth as well - however on the flip side he hasn’t replaced the outgoing players adequately and there seems little or no direction on the pitch.

I think if we don’t sign anyone in the last few days of the window then we are in big trouble and fans will be baying for blood! The one small crumb of comfort is the winter break in February - we may see McT and Pogba back after that. Rashford I am not sure about.

What can he really do though he's got a squad that is short on numbers we all knew at the start of the season we were light in midfield and attack just in pure numbers. We are also light in quality meaning he can't really afford to rest players like Rashford or Martial because it means he has to play Lingard or Chong.

In midfield he's been without his best player all season every time they've tried to bring him back he's had to go off for more surgery that's just horrible luck.

I do think we are reaching a point where they will probably change it in the summer but I don't care who they put in unless they've got a proper plan to sign 5 or 6 players next summer nothing will change on the pitch. Yeah we can probably get a better manager but unless we give him better players to work with he'll have the same problems.

i'm stuck really, deep down I don't think he's good enough. But it's such an awful squad I don't think it's fair to judge him yet.

Is he capable of attracting the players we need, not sure, but I don't think the club is either. You'd probably pick Liverpool, City, Spurs and Chelsea above us at the moment, and that's just in the English league.

I can't see a way out unless we get new owners who are only interested in success on the pitch, which isn't going to happen. Didn't the value go up by 450m yesterday? That's all the Glazers care about.

I do think a manager can help with the sell though you need to sell the vision and make a player believe that if I go to Utd that a) i'll become a better footballer and b) i'll have a chance to win things because the other thing which is the money will be taken care of wherever they go.

Utd do still have pull in the market with players but it won't be long before that is gone.

That is fundamentally the problem we are in a mad situation where the business side of the football club is so well insulated from on field success or failure that it's not in their interest to try and win. The only way they'd be out the door now is if the club was relegated and couldn't pay the loans and then we'd be in the hands of the banks or administrators which is how Liverpool got shot of their owners 10 years ago when they tried to use the exact same model on that club.

I agree, as to better mangers the last 2 had about 13 league titles , 3 European cups countless domestic cups and they didn't last very long until things change at the top we could end up with a long wait for the glory days to come back

The only thing I'd say I Utd have not gone for someone who's at the cutting edge of the game an up and comer they've gone for safe sets of hands in their first 3 appointments and the only real risk one was Ole which was obviously just a swept up in the moment decision rather than a carefully considered plan. I think in the case of LVG and Mourinho we kind of missed their best years the game moved on from them a bit by the time they came to Utd.

The board just aren't interested in the football plan they pass it off to managers then pretty much give them the freedom to go in whatever direction they want to a certain degree obviously it's not an open cheque book. I mean you can't imagine football results are even on the agenda for a board meeting at this club surely there should be someone there setting out the framework for how Utd win the European cup in the next 5 years. Is that not the bar we set ourselves? We are one of the richest clubs in the world should that not be a realistic target. You then put plans in place to achieve that this is what top clubs do. Utd almost need to take a step back forget what we were and accept who we are we are a club that for the last 5 years has been on average the 5th best team in the country and nowhere near a European cup.

Not so sure if the games moved on that much at the end of the day football is quite simple, score more than the opponents
