Champions League: PSG 1-2 Manchester United - 20th October 2020

Top class performance. He was excellent with and without the ball. My man of the match.

90% pass accuracy
7 tackles attempted
5 tackles won
3 interceptions
3 fouls

Was fantastic tonight. We lack his energy in the middle of the park when he’s not playing. Him and McT together seem to be a great pairing in the big games.

Fred is a boy for the big games he grafts in the centre and gives nothing easy same with McTominay they battle and that's important obviously in games where you need a bit more creativity to crack a tight defence these boys aren't the ones but in the big matches right now it's those two plus one of the attacking lads.

Premier League: Manchester United 0-0 Chelsea - 24th October 2020

Not seen his performance mentioned but I thought it was a toss up between him and Lindelof for motm today

Not from what I watched.
it was a good performance marred with some poor sloppy passing and at least one incident sticks in mind of losing possession too easily which could have led to goal

I think that is pretty much what you get from Fred. Unfortunately if Pogba plays in his place we seem to lose the midfield battle. It could be worth using VDB in that position.

Thought Fred was good tough battle in there didn’t really let them win the midfield battle.

His passing can be sloppy which is why he isn’t considered world class but I think we’ve been a better team this season when he’s been in it.

We have, because Pogba shouldn't be anywhere near that position

Wasn’t just Pogba in those early games Matic was also really poor the change from Pogba/Matic to Fred/McTominay has made the team look a lot less vulnerable.

Not everything is always about Pogba

Not everything is about Pogba but it feels like it is sometimes. For whatever reason, and I am not sure why or who is to blame, but disharmony seems to follow him around.

He’s just such a big personality you can’t seem to discuss anything about Utd without Pogba being part of it.

For years we seemed to be so reliant on him if he played well we played well if he didn’t we didn’t. The good news now is other players like Rashford and Bruno are regularly stepping up and taking over a game when Pogba is orisnt there.

Champions League: Manchester United 5-0 RB Leipzig - 28th October 2020

Pressure on the ball got us 2 goals.

He is wasteful with the ball but he’s protecting that defence well used wisely in the right games an important player.

Has his flaws but to me right now he’s undroppable. Him and Bruno should be shoe-one for any midfield we have, then we have others to fill in around.

I don't think Ole gets enough credit for how he has improved pretty much every player.

Think he’s a guy for when you know it’s likely you’ll have less than 50% of the ball as he’s pretty wasteful with it in the home games where we dominate the ball we probably don’t need him.

Finding the balance has been tough for Ole he’s had to go with 2 holders recently to try and protect that defence and he’ll probably stick with that for a while now.

Fred is tenacious, almost like Herrera liked to play. But he is sloppy at times.

I'd probably say one of the top stand outs from last night though, he was everywhere and seems to be getting better every game, just like the run he had with McT when everyone was injured last season.

Thought he was terrible first half but improved second half.

Victim of the system if you ask me but we all know his limitations as a player.

As I have just said on another subject. Another good player but would he get into one of the other top teams? Probably not.

Nope he'd be a squad player at other clubs which is what he really should be at Utd.

Tom Cleverley, Darron Gibson, Liam Miller, Eric Djemba-Djemba, Alan Smith, Kleberson, Quinton Fortune. Those names come to mind. We have a tradition of good players who just aren't good enough or don't fit whatever system we're trying to play. Fred joins the list.

Think that’s harsh on Fred those guys weren’t ever near the level of a Utd midfielder.

Fred I think fits more into the Butt, Anderson, Fletcher sort of group of of a good player who can contribute to a great team but you aren’t going to win the big prizes if they’re starting every week for you.

How we’ve paid 50m for him is another matter as he’s nowhere near what you’d expect for that sort of money.

I think the fact we're discussing the merits of Fred shows the state of our squad. In the glory days these type of players played cup games and dead rubbers

Premier League: Everton 1-3 Manchester United - 7th November 2020

Great today I’d give him man of the match.

Was up for the fight and the scrap in the midfield and helped us win the physical battle and his passing today was better than usual played a key pass in the build up to the second goal.

Yeah I'd have given him or Maguire man of the match today not Bruno.

Fred was actually good on the ball today as well.

I'd agree with that to be honest. Fred was good on the ball and his passing was good. Other than the 2 goals (which I know are massive) I thought Fernandes was pretty poor really.

Could we play him as a sole holding midfielder with Pogba or VDB next to him? Obviously Matic’s legs have gone so him next to Pogba is a liability. However, with Fred’s energy then could be worth a shot to try and get some more invention in the midfield.

I’m not convinced he’s good enough to play the role alone in every game neither is McTominay and that’s part of the issue but in some home games vs the weaker sides that want to defend we have play Pogba/VDB in the midfield.

Think in the bigger games at home and away from home he’s going to play the 2 holders.

I was seriously cursing him when he gave that free kick away in that area knowing they had such a dead ball specialist, But he went on to have a helluva game.

Scrapped away in midfield as he does he’s a tenacious little devil technically he’s not one of the best we’ve seen in that midfield but he scraps and never gives up you need that in a team.
