involved in a heated exchange with Mason Holgate tonight in the derby after Holgate took a cheap shot and shoved him into the crowd. Firmino came steaming over clearly angry and swearing in Portuguese the ref stepped between them but there seemed to be something said while the cameras view was blocked that sent the reasonably calm Holgate crazy.

Holgate could be seen suggesting to the ref something was said obvious speculation that it was the N word and lip reading his conversation on TV it seems to suggest that’s what he’s saying he heard.

Be very interesting to see what the fall out from this one is and if Holgate makes a complaint.

It was close enough that the refs microphone might pick it up but I don’t believe the exchanges over the headsets are recorded.

FA confirm that it’s in the referees report and that they are investigating.

Be interesting to see if the ref mic is now recorded as part of their training and quality control because of how close it was to the ref surely anything he might have said will be picked up.

The good thing is this time rather than rush to Firmino defence like they did with Suarez they’ve said no comment until the investigation begins maybe lessons learned. If he is charged will be interesting to see if the club suspend him while the investigation happens.

It appears they've learned the lesson from last time they've not just jumped to his defence straight away without knowing the full facts they've kept quiet and said they'll comply with the FA investigation which is the right thing to do. They made a big statement last week in support of one of their youth players who's suffered numerous cases on racial abuse in youth football so they can't just blindly jump to a players defence because he's the star striker.

The next step will be once the investigation happens and if the FA decide to charge him and the evidence is damning will the club suspend the player or will they continue playing him until his case is heard.

Where are the T-Shirts supporting their racist? Horrible club

I think it's fair to say they've learned the lesson from last time when it comes to just assuming your guy is innocent, and told everyone to keep their mouths shut. Especially when they're currently calling out UEFA in the press for the way they've handled allegations made by their own player when he played against Seville & Spartak Moscow and has said he was racailly abused by their players.

You still get fans online who've suddenly become expert in Portugese swearing and how to read lips.

No doubt the fans will rally behind Firmino.

Been a bad week for them as John Flanagan was found guilty of beating up his girlfriend outside a city centre bar.

Plus Clyne has been caught doing a bit to much white powder by all accounts, so basically in 2018 (just over a week in)

1. Racist investigation
2. Player beating up his missus
3. Player doing to much white stuff
4. Coutinho gone to Barca

Haha superb way to start the year!

Hadn't heard that one about Clyne... I thought he had a back injury haha!

Hahaha yeah seen it yesterday, apparently he has an issue lol bad back haha more like the Columbian flu!
