Do people actually use it anymore? For years I always tried to resist the seeming drive towards a cashless society, I liked the feel of having a wad of cash in my pocket. It was a great feeling as a young lad when you started earning, heading into town at the weekend to treat yourself and do a bit of spending. I guess I wanted to keep that feel.
I changed a bit a few years back when they introduced those horrible plastic notes, I started using cash much less. Then covid arrived and since I have stopped using cash all together for hygiene reasons.
I have realised that my big bottle of coins has been about 3rds full for around two years and it is now unlikely I will ever fill it as I just dont generate much in the way of loose change anymore. So, its going to get poured into the machine in my local Sainsburys at the weekend which counts the coins, deducts 10% for charity and spits a ticket out for the balance which you take to the counter and get your money. My guesstimation is it contains around £180 - 200 based on how much was in it when it was last emptied when full.
So, I am now fully onboard with the cashless drive nowadays but admittedly I dont like the ever increasing big brother world we live in now. The banks know too much, every little penny they know exactly what you are spending it on.
