Long-term view: The decline of Barcelona - Football365

Obviously tonight's result could make this look rather silly but other clubs have fallen off after long periods of success Liverpool, Utd, AC Milan etc.

They've bought badly recently and it will catch up to them if it continues

Their biggest problem in my opinion is that they don't have the quality of homegrown players already in the team or coming through that they did going into that period of success. Valdes, Puyol, Pique, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro and Messi. With that said they still have the same team as they did 2 years ago when they won the CL. Perhaps there's a motivation problem under Luis Enrique.

i think the cracks have been there for a while now the ridiculous front 3 they assembled got them that last CL plus at that point they still had Iniesta at close to his best.

The production line out of academy dried up and their signings haven't worked apart from Umtity no one has forced their way into the side that won the CL and they've spent fortunes on that team.

A new manager might give them a fresh spark but they have other issues Messi is having to change his role and now comes a bit deeper to create.
