The same thing happened last year, United bought Valencia, Owen and Obertan early in the transfer window. After that we were linked with players like Villa, Silva, Benzema, Luis Fabiano and many others I dont even remember any more. He said then: "The maket is not right, we arent going to buy players this summer anymore."

I thought ok, he will suprise us with some world class player, that will give us the edge after selling Ronaldo, we all thought that, even the papers they were linking us wits some players even after Fergie said that. But nothing happened, we didnt buy a world class player, and we lost the battle in the Premiership and Champions League because Rooney got injured for couple of games and there was nobody to step up.

So this year the same thing is about to happen, we buy Hernandez and Smalling early and Fergie says again the market is not right after a bunch of players stating that they would love to play for United like Luis Suarez, Mesut Ozill, Silva, Luis Fabiano, Alexis Sanchez... Ferguson added: 'We've looked at a few options. We did consider David Villa but he was always going to Barcelona. I just don't believe there is value out there at the moment. I'm very happy with the strength of our squad as it is. After this i am afraid that last years transfer scenario will repeat... (hope not)

And now the papers are linking us with Sneijder for 25 mill, and they say it is serious. After winning CL, Serie A, and coppa Italia the best player for Inter MIlan for 25 mill?? And to add to this, his coach in Inter is Rafa...

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

Wes is rated more than £30-40m.

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

If you want a good German why don´t have a look on:

Schweini
Tamas Hajnal
Jermaine Jones
Daniel Jensen
Misimovic
Frings
Barnetta

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

I don't remember us having any German players. We've had a few Youth/Reserve Germans, can't think of any others...

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

If someone paid more than £20m for Ozil, it would be ridiculous. I think he's been overrated probably due to a lack of quality at this year's World Cup.

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

Other options? Definitely need someone like Sneijder. Who can score and create.

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

I like Schweinsteiger but I think we need someone who will score and create goals regularly. Schweinsteiger doesn't score enough in my opinion.

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

Just heard Hargo isn't going on US tour and won't be fit for new season. So we need a DM now too. Can't keep relying on him. Waste of money, waste of time.

Full Story

Hargreaves to miss tour

Owen Hargreaves has today been ruled out of United's pre-season tour.

Sir Alex Ferguson told MUTV: "The bad news is that Owen Hargreaves is back in America seeing the specialist. He won't be ready for the start of the season. I don't know when he'll be back."

The midfielder was sidelined between September 2008 and April 2010 and required surgery on both knees but did return to action at the end of last season. He played 45 minutes for the Reserves before making a brief appearance off the bench in the first-team's final away fixture at Sunderland.

There’s plenty of positive news for United fans, though, with the boss confirming three key men should recover from injury in time to line up for the start of the season.

“Antonio Valencia should be okay and Nani should be ready for the start of the season, too. Michael Owen is doing great – he’s doing all his work in the gymnasium every day. I don’t think he’ll be fit to go to America but he should be ready for the start of the season.”

The boss also revealed Rio Ferdinand faces a battle to be fit for the Reds’ first league test, at home to Newcastle United on Monday 16 August, although admitted it will be a race that’s run close.

“It depends on how his progress is over the next few weeks,” he said.

Meanwhile, Brazilian midfielder Anderson remains on track to return from a cruciate knee injury in late September.

“He’s doing fine, he’s working hard, but it will be late September.”

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

I didn't like him as a player before WC 2006 infact I hated him before then, and then after WC 06 I wasn't too impressed.

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

"There no value in the transfer market" when did it ever stop Sir Alex before? He's payed too much for numerous player, Berbatov being a prime example. There is no money and won't be until we sell players. There are players to sell but no one will pay good money for our rejects. It's a vicious circle "catch 22" and teams will catch up and pass us in the near future.

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

I think Berbatov is one of the reasons that Fergie won't pay over the odds anymore.

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

Another post in the papers today, that SAF turned to Mesut Ozill for 25 m. He had 1 year left on his contract and i think 25 mil are way to much!!! 15-20 is resonable

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

according to FreddieBoswell on twitter, thirty clubs are interested in Ozil with Barca favourites to sign him.

How about Stephen Ireland? We could get him on the cheap.

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

Ireland may be a good signing reinforcement. Cheap, young, skilfull and definitely he'd come to United shity trying to prove something to Shity.
Moreover, He's a kinda problematic. He's not the kind of player who accepts well the reserve role(that's why he wants to leave shity). And i don't think he'd figure in first team so soon.
Moreover, There's that fateful story that he escaped to a hotel with his girlfriend and said that her grandmother had died. haha

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

Fergie's denied making bids for Ozil and Sneijder. So we're back to square one really.

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

Ozil lacks something and I can't think what, maybe he could learn whatever it is with us. I wouldn't be against signing him, can we match other offers though.

Re: Are we buying anything this year???

He's young (something SAF likes now), there's potentially a greater sell on value, Werder Bremen won't be asking ridiculous money (I think). If he can spend £10m or so for Smalling and Hernandez who haven't done anything yet, then i'm sure £20m or so is available for someone who was touted as one of the best players at the World Cup.
