Ballague....

"Real Madrid want to sell him and about €35m would do it.

"All the options remain on the table – Manchester United and Liverpool want him – but I just think United have the edge if it comes down to those two clubs. Jorge Mendes is his agent.

"But Italy is an option too. The only guaranteed thing at this stage is Real Madrid want him to go and he is considering his options."

Just don't see where we fit him into our team he either plays at number 10 or from the right and I think we've been burned by Di Maria if he did want to leave Madrid he'd have to be coming to Utd with a point to prove not for a payday

Translation: Man United has a principle of agreement to bring in James Rodriguez everything would depend on Rooney's departure.

Sure we had something similar with Falcao then he went to Monaco.

I'll believe it when I see it.

If we go for him he has to be coming for the right reasons not because we are his only option.

I believe there are better and more consistent players out there. Spanish media making stories up though I reckon!

At times James has looked gun hot at Madrid but not sure Zidane really fancies him. He's obviously talented and I remember him in the WC when he was world class. He would be a punt for sure but he could have a similar impact to Sanchez, who was also patchy in La Liga. Not sure if he's worth a £50m punt though.

I remember a certain Kleberson and Djemba Djemba having a very good world cup as well! Never judge a player on an international tournament.

Not the answer to our problems but if we can get that answer as well, I won't be against signing him. Very good player. Mourinho loves to sign attacking midfielders.

He was top class at Porto and Monaco before that World Cup.

He just felt like one great player to far at Madrid, he never really fit in as he wasn't a direct replacement for Di Maria. Bit like when Becks joined the original galacticos great player just not the right fit.

If James is hungry and desperate to join us to prove he's still a world class player then I'm happy for him to come, if he's just coming because we're the only club that can afford him and willing to take his wages the I'd be concerned.

If Griezmann isn't available then James could be a top class number 10 at Utd.

I wouldn't be against signing him but we need more than just him, he'd improve depth and add more quality to the squad which is great but i'm not sure he's better than what we've already got. Hard to judge though because he hasn't had a prominent role at Real since his first season, 17 goals in 46 appearances is a good return and he's entering his peak years now. Could turn out to be great.

My concern is that if we sign him, plus Griezmann which I think will happen if we win next week, plus Miki, thats 3 No 10's who should all be starting, add to that Mata as well. Miki has not done to much when played out wide and everyone is hell bent on cutting inside all the time, we seem to have No 10's coming out of our backside, imagine Griezmann James Miki behind say Rashford or whoever up front, they will all be running into the same spaces as no one ever stays out wide.

My main concern is buying specialist players for specialist positions as dunno about anyone else but I sick to death of seeing players constantly played of position, look at yesterday!

I think there's going to be a lot of turnover at the club this summer but I don't think James would be a good addition? I think he's a really really good player but where does he got

Sorry phone problems so didn't finish! And don't seem to be able to edit?

I don't think James is a fit because we need to add pace to wide areas but also how often do we play with an actual number 10? Generally our wide players cut inside which allows for the full back to overlap. And even then it makes us far too narrow and doesn't help us get in behind defenses and have them running back towards their own goal.

Yeah agree mate, were so narrow and so easy to play with, never get wide, never attack with pace, James for me will be very similar to what we have, we need pace out wide, stretch the game and if were gonna sit back like we do away from home we at least need pace to burn outside to cause problems on the counter. At the minute were so easy to predict and play against, James for me would be more of the same of what we have, is he any different to Mata/Miki/Rooney (position and pace wise not ability ha)

If we did sign Griezemann and James surely the formation would be

James Mhki Rashford

Griezemann

?

I can't see us signing both as both are big signings who need to go straight in the team and we can't really fit both in their best position.

James isn't a Mourinho style winger he's a true number 10 like Griezmann a goal scorer and creator. Could you play James behind Griezmann? Maybe but I think Griezmann prefers to play that role off a main striker so he can drift rather than being the main target man.

If we are going in for James my guess is we've probably been told by the Griezmann camp that he's not interested and is staying at Atletico or has decided to go somewhere else it feels like James is the alternative signing to Griezmann.

As for Mkhitaryan I think he's got to fight for his spot next season, he had that great burst earlier in the season when he finally got in the side but since then he's not been consistent. He's got a track record of coming alive in his 2nd season but I think he might have to earn his starting spot next season.

While I'm no way against the James signing because I've said before he is a very good player. However, we have become so predictable, the only way we looked like getting through Spurs is Martial and a long ball over the top for Rashford. I can't be doing with playing players out wide who always come inside. I would love someone like Lemar or Dembele out on the right to add some genuine width. If there was a choice between £40-50m on James or Dembele/Lemar it would be no contest.

Yeah I can't see us buying James personally and as mentioned he only really has one position that he can play, we need width, were so central and so easy to play against it winds me up.

Seeing some of the balls whipped in by Spurs yesterday was like what we use to do, getting in behind, balls in the box, full of width pace and creativity, watching United reminds me of watching England under Capello, players never swap position, no interchanging etc.

Miki/Martial can't complain if there not starting from the off next season, I don't think any of that supposed front 4 could moan if they were all replaced and relegated to squad players (maybe Rashford is the exception), im past the point of giving a sh*t now we are shocking going forward and it needs addressing massively.

Its not even a case of being good enough for top 4, which at the min alot of the aint, its being good enough to win leagues and challenge for European Cups, which some of them defo aint

To be honest apart from Rashford everyone else who considers themselves a winger, striker or number 10 at Utd should consider themselves lucky they're not being sold this summer. Everyone single one of them could be replaced this summer and could have no complaints as none of them have been anywhere near consistent and they've all had plenty of chances to prove themselves.

Obviously this doesn't include Zlatan who is leaving as his contract expires.

100% agree, I have zero sympathy for anyone who is sold or told they won't be starting, hoping Jose now knows exactly who he can improve and who is at their limit and no messing about get rid and get it sorted, just hope and pray we beat Ajax, I don't care how just as long as we do and then biggest summer for years ahead of us.

I believe that Mata whilst not pulling up trees and having been injured a couple of times this season was on 10 goals around January? Therefore he has a right to expect some leniency. Also were James to come in it'd give him proper competition for a position he wants to play in, that would surely generate better performances to stay in the shirt if you have it or win the shirt if you don't. Apart from that I think Martial will have to consider himself very lucky to still be a United player next season, essentially due to the board outlay I think he'll stay, same with Shaw. Mkhitarayan's first season so gets a bye, but has to hit ground running. Apart from those three (for all different reasons) anyone could go (not Rashford).

Yeah Depay was given the boot early as it was clear he couldn't reach the standards Mourinho was setting and was bottom of the list.

No one has really put themselves top of that list and nailed down a starting spot apart from Rashford who was definetly starting on the wing before Zlatan's injury and now he starts up top, the rest of them have gone in and out of form and favour with the manager but none of them have been anywhere near consistent.

I think currently there are 2 players who get the luxury of playing as the number 10. Fellaini & Rooney have all had most of their games in that position, Mata & Lingard have had the odd game there but generally have been used more as wide players. James in my opinion is a lot better than all of them and he might help provide that link between midfield and attack that is often missing as he's a player that can take the ball in tight spaces and turn, he can also play the defence splitting pass, score from distance and arrive in the box to score goals. You'd hope he'd be able to link play with wide players like Martial & Mhiki but also strikers like Rashford and the new strikers.

He has to come with the right attitude which should be to prove to Madrid and everyone else that he is a world class player, willing to adapt to Mourinho's methods and be a team player and be prepared to live in Manchster. He can't come with the attitude that Di Maria came with which was basically he had no choice as Madrid froze him out and PSG at the time couldn't afford him.

So according to 'Sky Sources' we have been offered James and it'll take about £50m to get him.

I'm always sceptical about reports on Sky as who knows who these sources are. It's usually a case of .. "we've seen the report in papers, we'll quote them as Sky sources to try and ramp up some coverage"

Watch this space I guess.

Yeah Sky Sources are basically any newspaper anywhere in the world or twitter.

I'm sure we have been offered James if he's leaving Real Madrid we are one of maybe 5 clubs in Europe who could afford to spend £50m on him. Despite all this money washing around there's till a limited number of clubs who can go to these levels on transfers.

If it's James or Griezmann it's Griezmann every time for me.

I'll be gutted if it's one or the other and we choose James. That signing isn't an exciting one. It's just an "oh, we signed James"

I doubt we'd pick James given the choice but it seems clear to me that the Griezmann stuff might be gone he's either staying at Altetico where I think he's very happy or someone else is ahead of us in the queue now.

I mean if we sign James and Madrid sign Hazard to replace him I'd be pretty happy, as it's kind of a 1 big name in 1 big name out policy there.

Still think we need 1 possibly 2 strikers next season if he thinks he can use Martial as his 3rd choice then we don't need 2 but we need someone ready made that Rashford can compete with for the number 1 spot next season neither James or Griezmann really solve that problem. My guess is if James or Griezmann come that is probably the last we've seen of Mata unless he's happy to stay and fight for his spot against the new number 10.

I like James and think he's a class player but as I said before I just don't think he's what this team needs. We need pace and I'm not sure we need another number 10 who probably won't even play in that position most of the time!

Will be interesting to see if he goes after Griezmann as well as James, would he look to play Griezmann out wide or as a central striker, suppose it would give us options and versatility having James Griezmann Miki Mata Rashford Martial Pereira (hoepfully not Lingard but I'm sure he will stick around).

If he does go all out for a Number 10, which is looking quite likely, does that mean that Pogba will have to work in a 2 as this season he has liked 433 with the extra security it brings, it would certainly do away with the boring tactics if he lined up something like this next season:

DDG
Val Bailly (new CB) Shaw
Herrera Pogba
Miki James Griezmann
Rashford

Thats just on the basis that we only sign them pair, if he brings in another CF at least the dull 1-1 home draws will hopefully be a thing of the past!

I'd be very very surprised if he went after both this summer because that's going to be over £100m just for the two of them. Add in the need for a CB and CM to replace Carrick in the long term and that is probably your business done. And depending on Ibra this summer we might need to look to bring in another striker...
