Does Ji Sung Park have a Future at Manchester United?

Now I might be absolutely hammered for this.

With recent Sir Alex Ferguson’s recent comments regarding building a new team made me question the future of several players. There have been recent rumours linking Ji Sung Park a move away from Old Trafford. Is now the correct time to sell Park?

Let me state first I like Park for what he brings to the team. His energy, work rate and harassing of the opposition. His best work is done when the opposition have the ball. I feel at times however he lacks constant quality when in possession of the ball.

With the return of Hargreaves and the prominent form of Darren Fletcher I wonder how much Park will feature? Park is by no means a certain starter and at this stage of his career will he be happy featuring less?

In recent seasons Sir Alex Ferguson has preferred to start Park in big games. This season Park has started against AC Milan home & away and was asked to play a specific central role limiting the influence of Pirlo. Park was superb. However, Hargreaves can fulfil this role and adds greater quality. Younger players such as Anderson, Cleverley and Gibson may also be in Fergie’s thoughts.

Ideally, you’d like an attacking midfielder to perform both roles – Xavi and Inestia are prime examples. We all know their attacking qualities but when Barcelona are not in possession of the ball the pair have a great work ethic in closing down opposition.

Sir Alex Ferguson may have noted the success Bayern Munich has had this season playing two attacking wingers in Ribery and Robben. When selected on the wing Park is a defensive choice. Should Manchester United be more adventurous? I think so, especially if Nani and Valencia can continue their form of this seasonI guess the decision to allow Park to leave will be based on a few factors – the fitness of Hargreaves, the transfer fee involved and possible future signings. I’d have no qualms if Park remains, I just wonder if Park is to feature less how happy he will be.

Many will prefer Park remained at United. If so, what is Park’s role in the squad next season?

  1. he’s a very good player and I think he should stay and he’ll play in rotation as a left winger or central midfielder

  2. Love Park. Love United more.
Have to look at the greater good…
SAF will as always make the rigth choice for the club.
In this case I think it might be to sell Park…

  3. Good question amte ..
but even for the past couple of seasons, Park has been a squad player; never starting more than 2 games on the bounce. That said though, he is a very valuable part of the squad and it will be interestin to see how SAF handles this situation …

  5. I sure hope so, he has been a good servant and seems to do what he asked whenever he comes on. People like him who don’t moan about appearances are a great value to the club!

  6. I like him but i wouldnt be too upset if he leaves ive heard good things about Cleverley so i hope he gets his chance next year and those chances might be less if Park stays.
