Liam Grimshaw Joins Preston North End

Liam Grimshaw has left Manchester United to join Preston North End, where he has signed a contract until at least the summer of 2018.

The 20-year-old follows Ben Pearson and Sam Johnstone to Deepdale, with both players signing for the Lancashire club earlier this month, the former on a permanent deal and the latter on loan.

Grimshaw was born in Burnley, so the local lad is familiar with his surroundings in the northwest, and his versatility will be a great asset to the Championship club, where striker Will Keane featured 22 times on loan in the first half of the current campaign.

It is his versatility that has seen him likened to former United stalwarts Phil Neville and John O’Shea, and if Grimshaw has half the career that they had, then he is in for a prosperous time on the big stage.

Sent out on loan to Scottish side Motherwell during the summer, the versatile youngster featured 16 times for the North Lanarkshire club.

This loan was cut short in order for Grimshaw to complete his move to Preston, where ex-United defender Marnick Vermijl is also plying his trade, currently on loan there from Sheffield Wednesday.

A bundle of energy, an impressive work rate, adaptability, hard in the tackle and keenness to learn, Grimshaw was nominated for the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year award at Old Trafford last season, alongside Donald Love and eventual winner Andreas Pereira.

This highlights the talent and potential that ‘Grimmy’ has to offer, and we wish him all the best going forward and a long and successful career in the game.
