Manchester United players past and present gathered at Old Trafford last night for their end of season awards which saw Nani crowned the Players’ Player of the Season.
There were also awards for Javier Hernandez who scooped the Fans Player of the Year and Wayne Rooney who won Goal of the Season.
The evening provided a great opportunity for Man United to look back on a record breaking season which saw the club claim their 19th league title and move one clear of arch-rivals Liverpool.
Nani’s ten goals and nineteen assists helped him become United’s Players’ Player of the year with many of his team mates citing his performances in the first half of the season as the catalyst behind this seasons league triumph.
Javier Hernandez won the Sir Matt Busby Fans Player of the Year to cap a great first season in English football which has seen the Mexican score an impressive 20 goals so far. Gary Neville and life-long United fan Mick Hucknall presented the award.
The Goal of the Season was unsurprisingly Wayne Rooney’s overhead kick against Manchester City at Old Trafford in February. There were originally ten goals selected as possible winners of the prize but they were narrowed down to just three. Along with Rooney’s goal, the other two contenders were Dimitar Berbatov’s acrobatic finish against Liverpool and Javier Hernandez’s unorthodox header against Stoke City.
Oliver Gill won The Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of Year. Gill, who was nominated for the same award last year, beat Joe Dudgedon and Scott Wootton to the prize.
The Jimmy Murphy Academy Player of the Year was Ryan Tunnicliffe who was rewarded for his strong performances in the U-18s this season. Paul Pogba and Tom Thorpe were the other nominees and narrowly missed out on the award.
