Hi everyone, I’m Richard, and I’m a third year Sports Journalism student at the University of Central Lancashire.
I’ve supported Manchester United all of my life, and they’ve given me so many memories down the years. My favourite match at Old Trafford is the 4-3 against city from the 2009-2010 season. The winner coming so late, a composed finish from Michael Owen was obviously incredible, but it was the relief and jubilation surrounding the goal that made it all the sweeter. Ferdinand’s careless mistake had brought silence and disbelief to Old Trafford, and after dominating the entire game, it seemed unjust that city would leave with a point. Being in the Stretford End that day when Owen scored was incredible and something I will never forget. It has yet to be bettered!
Other great United moments down the years include the Champions League final in 2008, Rooney and Scholes’ winners against City in the same season as Owen’s late goal, Macheda’s winner against Villa, and Scholes’ fantastic strike against Barcelona in that memorable semi final at the Theatre of Dreams. The less said about the 4-4 draw with Everton last season the better!
Many great players have graced Old Trafford since I started watching them. My favourite player has to be Ronaldo though. His skill, power and pace kept you on the edge of your seat, and you always had a sense of anticipation every time he got the ball. There are very few players who do that. A special mention has to go to Berbatov as well. I loved the way he played, his technique, vision and awareness was astounding, and I just wish he was given more of a chance last season.
I hope you all enjoy my articles over the coming months, I’ll try to be as insightful and entertaining as possible!
