Nathan Thomas

Keeping my hands in lots of different pots has always served me well; I love writing, but about lots of different things, nobody likes the same-old same-old ā€“ right?

Primarily, my passion is sport, with Football and Formula 1 being the two that I love. I enjoy writing about them both and have amassed a fairly decent portfolio in my two years of writing for nothing more than gaining a wee by-line.

I am a lifelong Red, season-ticket holder in the Stretford End and local lad. Those eleven red liveried heroes that take to the pitch every weekend have been such a constant, such a fulcrum in my life that I donā€™t know what I would do without them. They have sent me into the upper echelons of sheer ecstasy whilst on the very rare occasion have hauled me into the depths of depression. All over a Football team – ridiculous? Well, a wise man once said ā€œif you have to ask, youā€™ll never understandā€.

As a relatively young fan I have been fortunate enough to support United during what can only be described as a golden era. My first memory of United is from the mid-nineties when a warrior-like Frenchmen, who would strut across the pitch like he owned it, captured my imagination more than any film or book ever could. Of course, this man was Eric Cantona, Le Roi. He was my first real United hero and I adored watching him play, in spite of the fact that I was five going on six and had little or no clue about what was going on. So, despite the fact that I had ā€˜technicallyā€™ been a Red anyway, he was what really sparked the passion and the rest, as they say, is history.

Although I am still unsure as to whether or not I am going to pursue a career in sports media I do thoroughly enjoy writing purely as a hobby. I was delighted when Andrew, the editor of Stretford End Arising approached me to write for his excellent site. The diverse world of the Manchester United fanbase is one that is well worth delving into as there are plenty of colourful characters. I look forward to writing many more articles over the coming season, one which will hopefully will be silver-laden. I have also previously written for the club website and manage my own Formula 1 blog called The Write Formula.

Aside from sport I am a music man, I donā€™t come from far away, but have been told in recent years that I can play. Iā€™m twenty, but should have probably been born in the mid 1970ā€™s, given that I cite Queen and Guns nā€™ Roses as my musical lifeblood.

I am about to start my third year reading for a History Degree at the University of Chester. After which, who knows? We shall see.

I hope you enjoy what I have to say; I would love to hear your thoughts.
