Intro: Jason Freeman here, I was born and bred in Wales and I’ve been supporting Manchester United pretty much since I was born thanks to my Dad who has been supporting United since the early 80s.
First football memories: Euro 96, with my dad being English I was brought up supporting England at the summer tournaments and Euro 96 was the one that really got me into football and it was from there I really started getting into football. My first United memory is seeing Beckham’s goal from the halfway line against Wimbledon on Match of the Day on a Sunday morning.
Favourite players: Peter Schmeichel and Roy Keane. I loved Schmeichel and wanted to be like him when I was growing up, always playing in goal on the school yard and field. When I wasn’t playing in goal I always wanted to be Keano. Rio Ferdinand has been my favourite player in more recent years, and he’s been a big part of why we’ve been so successful in the last 6 years.
Favourite goal: Tough choice because there are so many but it’s probably Keano’s header that got us back into the game against Juventus in 99. Keane’s performance that night is probably also one of my favourite performances by a United player.
Favourite game: Again so many amazing games but I’m going to go for the 1-0 win over Barcelona to get to Moscow in 2008. The crowd that night was amazing and I think it played a part in getting us the win to take us through. The performance was also brilliant especially defensively with Rio Ferdinand and Wes Brown having excellent games at centre back in the absence of Nemanja Vidic. Scholes’ goal was unbelievable and it was great that he would finally get the chance to play in a Champions League final after he missed out in 99.
