Unfortunately we seem unable to compete for the top players anymore. It pains me to say it as I believe Hazard is going be one of the best players in the world. Thats why I am so depressed that there is a suggestion we cannot even keep our own juniors at the club.

Thought for a while now that Hazard is an exceptional player but we have left it too late, as you say the clubs with owners who don't bleed them dry we can't compete with

Manchester United seek talks over Lille star Eden Hazard > Manchester United > Sport | Click Manchester

Other reports claiming Chelsea may have agreed personal terms 'provisionally'... Would love us to nip in ahead of them though.

As I said I would love us to sign him, I think he'll be one of the worlds best in a few years but even if that reports accurate I'd still be surprised if he didn't end up in Spain. Can't see him going to Chelsea, if it's a two way fight between us and them surely he'd choose United?

Yeah exactly how I feel. As long as Madrid stay away then we would have a very good chance. Not sure why Chelsea are after him - it's probably the one position they don't need to strengthen. They supposedly bid for Jovetic aswell. Fantastic player but again they don't need him. Chelsea's problem is their three centre midfielders - Meireles, Ramires and Romeu aren't good enough.

Recently said he will come to England in the summer. We have no chance of getting him.

Would be surprised if he ended up anywhere other than Chelsea, they seem to be trying to sign the entire Belgian team.

Can't see him going Spurs unless they expect to lose Modric in the summer....

I think they would have to sell either Modric or Bale to be able to afford him as Levy don't like breaking the bank for players (Modric for £16.75million is their record fee, Hazard would be best part of double that), plus I think Redknapp's main transfer target is a centre forward if he stays. We'll see but I'd be surprised if he ended up at Spurs, less so than if he ended up at United though.....

I know we don't need a winger but Hazard is class and better than what we have so if he is going to leave Lille this summer we should definitely try for him. Especially if we are considering Gaitan - from what I've seen of the two Hazard is far better.

Think his fee will be a stumbling block for us as Lille will want serious bucks for him £30m + and it's hard to tell if Utd are prepared to pay that sort of money for one player these days the last £30m player we signed was Berbatov 4 seasons ago.

I agree having the money might be a stumbling block. But if the money is there, and Fergie and Gill keep telling us it is, then this is a player we have to try to get. When the best players become available United should be in with a shout and i believe Hazard is one of the best.

We did spend over £50m last summer. Spiralling wages is more of an issue instead of big transfer fees in my opinion. Is Hazard a winger or does he play centrally?

He probably could play more centrally in a 3 man midfield, and could definitely play off a main striker. I don't see the point in signing him since we already have 3 top class wingers unless Fergie is going to use him centrally, even then we could get Gotze who I rate more highly for a similar fee.

We spent £50m but that was spread over 3 players.

I'm not saying we're skint i just think we're being a bit smarter with the money and not getting drawn into crazy bidding wars.

Financial Fair Play is a reality for clubs wanting to compete in European Competitions in the future so you've got to be wise on how you spend your money this summer. That is why I think Lille might find it difficult to get the sort of fee they're looking for as assuming this system works there are maybe only 4 or 5 clubs in the world who can get away with paying £30m + for a player these days unless that player is going to be your 1 and only signing.

I can't really say if this guy is worth it you hear all the hype but i've not seen him play but he is highly rated by a lot of european football reporters who believe he's the real deal.

If we are to spend £30m on a player I'd like him to a first team/automatic starter. If Hazard is a winger I see little point in signing him when we have Nani, Valencia and Young. I can imagine a player like Hazard needing at least a season to adjust to Premier League football.

I agree if you're going to lay down that sort of cash the player becomes on the "first team picks" he won't be getting rotated when fit I think Utd currently have 4 nailed on first team picks Vidic, Evra, Carrick & Rooney.

Everyone else gets moved around to suit.

Considering Nani is reportedly close to signing a new deal, Valencia almost of his own kept us in the title race before his injury, Young was only signed last season it would be strange to see such a high profile winger come in.

To me it'd be a real luxury signing that we do have probably needs to be spent on an experienced and reliable RB as I don't think the twins will make it due to injuries & some competition for Evra who's years are really catching up to him.

Can play both. Whenever I've seen him he has tended to roam around but generally started on the wing.

Hazard would be a definite starter if he joined. I'd be less sure about Gaitan from what I've seen - looks like he would certainly need to adjust but Hazard has come on a lot physically and I feel he'd adapt very well. The quality of the league is quite poor imo.

He could be our best winger if he joined though. Nani is still inconsistent, Valencia was on excellent form but can be predictable at times and Young is a decent player no more no less. Having a consistent threat out wide would make a whole lot of difference to our attacking play which has been poor enough this season. Feel Hazard and Rooney could have a fantastic link up. That said though Nani could yet be that player.

Gotze will stay in Germany past this season according to his agent, Dortmund officials etc. In any case I would have Gotze in the same group as Hazard in that they both would have to be tried for if they become available - like Sanchez last summer. Feel it could be another while yet before Gotze is on the market and when that time comes Madrid will probably get him so if Hazard is series on a move to England, get him.

You've obviously seen more of Hazard than me. If one wing position had to be picked - would he be a left or right winger? Here's another story - Sir Alex Ferguson eyes Eden Hazard as potential heir to Paul Scholes' midfield throne - Telegraph

I disagree about our wing play being poor this season. Nani, Valencia and Young have a combined total of 18 goals and 32 assists.
