Manchester United net new keeper Dean Santangelo but don't worry David De Gea, it's not your replacement | Mail Online

Manchester United are closing on a deal for a new goalkeeper.

However, it's not Stoke's Asmir Begovic, Liverpool's Pepe Reina or Real Madrid No 1 Iker Casillas just yet but former Reading starlet Dean Santangelo.

The 19-year-old is being brought in from Augsburg in Germany and is expected to be given a short term contract until the end of the season.

Santangelo was born in London but raised in Switzerland before returning to England where he graduated through Reading's ranks. He also had loan spells with Bromley before looking to revive his career in Germany. Augsburg are struggling in the Bundesliga but Santangelo has been restricted to playing for their B team.

United are willing to give him a chance to impress as clubs look to take some of their other young keepers on loan.

Santangelo said: 'My father got a call from Manchester United on Wednesday. This weekend I fly to England and will be there to sign a contract.'

United remain in the hunt for a first team goalkeeper also with David de Gea expected to return to Spain in the summer.
