Wouldn't have paid much attention to this story but I was listening to an interview Talksport did with Guillem Ballague recently and he reckons that United are very keen and have already made contact with the player. Strange one as we have 5 top centre backs already
Only way I can see us signing a CB is if the club feel Vidic isn't going to be the player he was when he comes back.
What I feel we lack in our current CB's is a presence in the air I mean they're all good but Vidic is excellant in my opinion he's the best defender of the long ball or cross in the world. He wins every header that comes into our box and every long ball that a team sends down the pitch without him I feel we're exposed to the big punt from the keeper and set plays.
I'd like to think that we could find a better option than someone who's Valencia will want £20m for.
I agree. Not may good one's out there though - we have most of them. Thiago Silva is probably the best of the rest but he's out of reach. Doubt we'll be in the market for one though.
Thiago Silva is probably the best defender in the world right now his positional play is unreal he's like Rio was before injuries set in non of this last ditch nonsense get in position, nick the ball away then play it out from the back.
If you wanted my budget option I'd say you could do a lot worse than picking up Chris Samba for the role but you've got to give Vidic a chance to come back and prove himself next season I'd like to see us working on a Smalling/Vidic partnership.
Before you ask I think Jones best position may be as a CM player he's gets bullied to much by the big powerful CF's in the air I'd like to see us use him as a CM player next season.
Yeah I wouldn't mind the likes of Samba if we felt the need to strengthen that area. As you say 20 million is far too much to be spending on a defender. Midfield will probably be the priority once again this summer.
Was going to write something similar about Jones. If Fergie feels his best position is elsewhere then that could explain the links.
