I read both Nani and Jones could be out for almost a month. Horrible if true, with some tough games coming up in next 6 weeks. If that happens, we need Young especially back as soon as possible for the Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs league games if not before that
How do we get so many injuries ? There is being unlucky and then there is this.
I'd imagine we'll see Park in on the left, Giggs continuing. This may have been the case anyway. Smalling could be at RB if Rio returns otherwise Rafael will replace Jones. Only changes from Arsenal i'd make. Carrick and Rooney will apparently be OK. We'll be looking at a struggle without Carrick. May see Pogba on the bench.
Edit:
#MUFC assistant manager Mike Phelan tells @BBCMancSports they're "optimistic" Phil Jones (ankle injury) will be fit to face #LFC
Ref is Mr Atkinson, don't like to think any Ref is biest but this plonker seriously worrys me. I am sure our Liverpool friends are delighted
Now appears according to Oliver Kay of the Times that Mr Atkinson has a virus and Mark Halsey will now be the ref. Did the FA have a rethink?
Interesting.
Not got many choices so have to go with strongest possible 11 in my opinion. We have a game Tuesday though so we may see a few changes and surprises. De Gea could come in as it's the FA Cup. We may even see Rooney on the bench as we did in October with Welbeck upfront alone, don't think we've got enough players to go with 5 in midfield though and we've got 4 fit strikers so that's unlikely although Rooney could still be left out for Hernandez with Welbeck dropping deeper.
Team I think we'll see depending on what Fergie says tomorrow: Lindegaard, Smalling, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra; Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, Park; Rooney, Welbeck.
Missing the game unfortunately. Wonder if Young will be fit enough. We will need him for the run of games coming up if Nani's injury is as bad as feared.
Today at Old Trafford - Official Manchester United Website
Fergie on Saturday's match: On United's injury problems, he didn't name names but did say he hopes to have "two or three" players back training today ahead of tomorrow's match against Liverpool.
On the match, he said: "It's a massive game for both clubs. There's a tremendous profile around it. Steven Gerrard said it's the responsibility of the players to behave properly and I expect my players to. And also the fans. Both sets of fans need to make sure we're talking about the game and nothing else."
On how to combat an expected hostile atmosphere: "You just have to concentrate on the game. That's what you have to do, just try and play your game. That helps. I think both sets of players are aware of that."
Fergie playing his cards close to his chest on the injury front.
I've heard that Nani's definitely out and could be out for a month or 2, Rooney's a big doubt having not trained all week, Jones and Ferdinand also struggling to make it. Might be false though.
If none of those make it my team would be. Lindegaard; Rafael, Smalling, Evans, Evra; Park, Giggs, Carrick, Valencia; Welbeck, Hernandez.
Would like to play 5 in midfield but don't know who's available, Anderson seems to have had a setback and it's not really the game to chuck Pogba into. Fingers crossed Rooney makes it.
Sir Alex didn't look too happy this morning so I would say injuries are a problem
Pogba was subbed last night for the reserves with paddy crerand saying he could be involved against the scousers ?
There's a good chance Pogba will be on the bench. He was terrific last night.
I hope he plays Pogba, it'll give him a bit of a incentive to stay hopefully. He looks good, we can't afford to be losing talent like him for nothing. He looked like the only decent player when he came on against Palace in the c.cup. How did he play against Liverpool in reserves?
Pogba was very good against Liverpool reserves. He created a goal for Diouf. I don't know if that showing will have a bearing on his selection for tomorrow's game.
I hope so, we're a bit short in the midfield. Surely Giggs can't play every game! It'll be nice to see a bit of young blood in there tho, Park might be in there to close their midfield down I reckon.
I didn't think the 1st one had sent then sorry for any confusion!
Ferdinand's experience could be a miss at Anfield. If he is available I'd consider going for him. Last week Arsenal were overrated in my opinion and it's why my preference was Smalling and Evans. If Smalling and Evans come through today's match I don't think lack of experience can be held against them - they won't have a tougher challenge then Liverpool at Anfield in the Cup.
Wouldnt be surprised if a few of these injuries got the magic sponge treatment this morning and are fine for kick off! Fingers crossed anyway!
Starting line up - De Gea, Rafael, Smalling, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Park, & Welbeck.
Bench - Berbatov, Hernandez, Fabio, M.Keane, Pogba.
No Rooney at all
Odd De Gea is in goal. The team is pretty much expected with those available. Looks like Giggs, Scholes and Carrick in midfield, or Park will replace Giggs.
Come on Patrice!!
Boos for a player racially abused. Class from Liverpool fans.
