Loan Watch (2012-13): Bebe at Rio Ave

Sir Alex confirms Bebe has gone on loan - Official Manchester United Website

The club have confirmed Bebe has joined Portuguese side Real Ave on loan until the end of June and Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful the move will prove to be a beneficial one for the attacker.

The 22-year-old has played seven times for the first team and scored two goals since joining in August 2010, but he is yet to feature for the Reds this season having spent much of the campaign training and playing for the Under-21s.

With competition for places in attack particularly fierce in Sir Alex’s senior squad, the United manager feels it’s best for Bebe to gain experience elsewhere for the time being.

“We feel the boy has got to get good experience at a better level than our reserve team,” Sir Alex told MUTV.

“He’s gone to Real Ave who are fifth in the Portuguese league at the moment – they have a young coach [Nuno] who has a very good reputation.

“Bebe has done quite well in the last two or three months. He got a cruciate knee injury when he was on loan in Turkey last season and that derailed him for a bit. Coming back from these injuries takes time but he’s started to develop quite well.

"Hopefully his spell in Portugal, where he is from anyway, could help him.”

Why have we not just cut our losses on him and sold him?

Who would want him without him playing much first team football, we might get a bit more cash if he does well on loan at Rio Ave.

I was thinking that after i wrote that post, do you think he will ever be good enough for us or is he a waste of time?

No he'll never be good enough in my opinion. He scores some great goals but the rest of his game is pretty naff to say the least. Key now is to try and get the best out of him so we can get back some of that money we spent and get his career back on track.

If ever I wanted someone to succeed it was Bebe. Homeless to Manchester United how many people would ever have that on their CV. Hopefully he will get some game time and improve as a player. I don't think he will ever cut it in the Premier League.

Bebe scored the winner for Rio Ave in a 1-0 victory against Maritimo in the Taca da Liga. Rio are top of the group (6 points) on goal difference after three games.

As many goals as Messi in 2013. The Ballon D'or is ON!

The guy Bebe replaced in the Rio Ave team, scored for St Mirren today to help knock Celtic out.

They beat Sporting?! That's pretty good. Would love to know how he's playing.

The link has brief highlights of the game. I think it's Bebe that has a good run at 2:35ish and involved in the winning goal.

He'll never be good enough for United but I hope he does enough on loan to get a move back to a top division Portuguese side and has a good career. It was a waste of money but it's kept us in favour with Mendes who helped us get De Gea and will probably help us get other players.

Just read on twitter that he was Man of the Match yesterday. Apparently his 2nd MotM award since joining.
