In recent years Hull seem to have had a very good link with Manchester United (and I can’t think of a better team to be linked with) Starting with young striker Fraizer Campbell who’s goals got us to the top flight, to the big clumsy Manucho who’s one moment of note was a last minute winner against Fulham. However under new manager Nigel Pearson our link has moved to a new level. We’ve already had James Chester, Cameron Stewart and Corry Evans who were snapped up after impressive loan spells. But we now have Joe Dudgeon who has impressed so far in pre season, and to add to the list we have Robbie Brady on loan. It’s hard to say why we have such a link with the champions, former Hull hero Warren Joyce is currently a youth coach there as is Alan Fettis the former City goalkeeper. However it’s not all one way traffic, Hull Favourite Nick Barmby’s son Jack is currently at Man Utd’s youth team and has apparently impressed in the Milk Cup.
Brady has so far impressed and his pace and skill looks set to be a real asset to our campaign this season. He has already impressed against the likes of Chesterfield, Bradford and North Ferriby but his most impressive game was against Liverpool, where he tore the reds defence apart, scored a brilliant opening goal firing home after a superb mazy run. Then the young winger claimed an assist for our third against Dalglish’s men.
Brady is a welcome addition to the City squad who were desperately lacking a left sided midfielder last season and often made do with right sided players fitting in. It’s ironic in a strange way that Brady is brought in to cover his former Man Utd team mate Cameron Stewart who is recovering from a serious injury. For a few seasons now we have lacked a midfielder who has the pace and confidence to take on defenders, but with Brady we seem to have found a bit of a gem.
After a promising pre season we kicked off our first game against newly relegated Blackpool, and many Hull fans were hopeful of a positive start, however it was not to be, with Blackpool running out one – nil victors in a game that either team could have won. Brady was impressive, his confidence is there for everyone to see and he is certainly not shy when it comes to taking on his man. He certainly looks like he could make many defenders look average in this league. He put in a few nice crosses and created a few chances, it’s just a shame our forwards were unable to convert the opportunities created.
In our second league game against top of the league Ipswich Brady was given the start again on the left, and again, played well although somewhat quieter than in previous games. He still looked confident on the ball and willing to take shot when the chances arise. He produced some nice crosses and started to come into the game as the second half wore on, and as city took the lead Brady showed he was more than capable of doing the defensive stuff just as well as the attacking.
So two games into the season Brady has given the fans no reason to worry about him, and although we are yet to see him at his best, he is certainly not letting himself down.
Bloody hell Brady has made some start to the season considering it's his first spell away from United. Injury-free season and I have no doubt he will be either knocking on the door of the first team next season or sent on loan to a Wigan or a Bolton. Great start for him though
This is a game that will always test the nerve of any young player, a derby between two rivals at a noisy and hostile Elland Road. Brady was a threat early on and whipped in a few dangerous crosses, however in the second half he seemed to fade quite badly (along with the rest of his team mates). Unfortunately Brady’s first ‘big game’ was not a happy one, though Nigel Pearson revealed after the game that Brady was struggling with a virus.
Hull 0 Crystal Palace 1
The pressure was on City to get a positive result after the disappointment of the Leeds game and once again Brady was going to be the key to any success. He looked dangerous going forward, certainly showing no shortage of confidence and was in the main The Tigers best attacking option. Some of his long range passing was exquisite and Brady tried a number of times to spread the play with long searching balls across the park, however on occasions Brady tries to do too much and was dispossessed of possession a little too easily, when a pass or cross may have been the better option. Brady was substituted midway through the second half; a decision that was met with boo’s from some City supporters as the young lad constantly looked dangerous. With a bit more experience Brady could end up as one of the best left midfielders in the country.
Hull 1 Reading 0
Four games into the season Hull had only one win and two goals to their name, so pressure was mounting on Nigel Pearson and his young side. Many Hull fans were pessimistic about the game against a strong Reading side, however The Tigers started brightly and again young Brady looked confident going forward and more than capable of getting stuck in to the defensive side of the game. Brady has always looked confident and ready to take on his man and ran former Leeds defender Ian Harte ragged. Brady’s passing was once again very good and he made some fantastic cross field balls to slice open The Royals back four. He’s got a good footballing brain for a young lad, and is coming on game after game. It was Brady who scored the only goal of the game, to give the City a much needed win. After a neat one two with Aaron Mclean, Brady cut inside and floated a cross/shot into the top corner.
Summary
For his first month in competitive football Brady has certainly impressed. He has been one of City’s main threats in all of their matches thus far, and he is improving game after game. He certainly seems to have blended in well and looks more than capable of becoming a top class player. Here’s hoping the Manchester United youngster can keep his early season form going into the coming months.
Isn't Brady on loan only for 6 months? anyone think Sir Alex might bring him into the first team if we have any injuries when he returns from loan?! he'd be an excellent cover for Ashley Young, and going by how well he's done for Hull this season, i think either he'll be in our first team next season or have a loan in a PL club.
Only problem with him is his temperament and also he's unlucky with injuries. Hopefully he can stay fit and stay out of trouble for the rest of the season.
