Manchester United youth star Ravel Morrison avoids jail after pleading guilty to criminal damage | Manchester Evening News - menmedia.co.uk
A Manchester United starlet has escaped jail after pleading guilty to a charge of criminal damage.
Ravel Morrison, 18, appeared at Salford Magistrates' Court less than 48 hours after he scored two goals for United in the FA Youth Cup final at Old Trafford.
He admitted a charge of criminal damage and a second charge of alleged assault was dismissed after the prosecution offered no evidence.
The young footballer, who was dressed smartly in a black jumper, tie and dark trousers, was ordered to pay £700 in fines and court costs.
The court heard he was already the subject of a 12-month referral order after being convicted of a separate incident in January but District Judge Jonathan Feinstein decided against punishing him for the original offence. Manchester United declined to comment after the case, however the MEN understands that the club intends to stand by Morrison.
He is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the club's youth team, which won the FA Youth Cup this week after a 6-3 aggregate win over Sheffield United. Morrison scored three goals over the two legs of the tie, including two in the second leg at Old Trafford on Monday evening.
Dunno what to say with him!! hope he turns his life around or he'll be on the fast lane to self-destruction
Definitely ready for the first team next season I reckon. No point in him staying in the reserves and a loan would probably be risky... If he was to break into the first team I see him playing on the left, as would Cleverley, (another reason I'm questioning going for Young). If Rooney got injured we have a perfect number 10 replacemnet in Rav though. He gives us a lot of options
Definitely should make a few appearances next season if everything goes well. Expect him to make most appearances from the bench though. Don't think he should just be thrown in to it, needs to be eased in. It's a big step up.
Great stuff. Definitely ready to make the step up. I feel the longer he stays in the reserves the more bored/disillusioned he could become and could get into more trouble. Being promoted to the first team could give him the challenge and focus he needs to put his troubles behind him.
One thing that really stands out in this video is his workrate, a lot of AM's get criticised for not tracking back etc, you don't get that with United AM's.
Can't wait for next season, hopefully he gets more than 30 secs this time.
I think the NOTW reported he might not be allowed on the pre season tour because of his legal troubles
That's true but this is also the NOTW we're talking about.
The judge's comments from Ravel Morrison's court case the other week that didn't get in the paper. Daniel Taylor On Ravel Morrison, Signing Nasri and The Hairdyer
“I’ve been given a glowing report on you. It indicates you have attended all of your appointments, you are working with Manchester United and the youth team to improve your maturity and, in particular, you are dealing with anger-management issues. In group work, I’m told you have engaged positively with other young people. Someone in your position has achieved a deal of fame – you can use that to make the world a better place and, if this referral order makes you understand that, it can only be a good thing.”
New brush with the law for Manchester United starlet Ravel Morrison | Manchester Evening News - menmedia.co.uk
United starlet Ravel Morrison has been quizzed by police after he was accused of an allegation of harassment.
The 18-year-old – who is tipped to be a key player at Old Trafford – is currently the subject of a 12-month referral order.
He was questioned by officers after police received a complaint against him.
Morrison, from Timperley, who scored to help United win the FA Youth Cup in May, is an England youth international and is being tipped to break into the first team squad this season.
He attended Swinton police station voluntarily, by appointment, with his solicitor.
He was accused of visiting Pendleton College, which is attended by the teenage witness who Morrison admitted to intimidating in a separate case.
It is understood the victim’s family complained to police, alleging Morrison had been seen outside the college and had attempted to approach the teenager.
He was not arrested but was asked to sign a harassment letter, explaining the seriousness of harassment and telling him he would be in trouble if he was found to be committing the offence.
The M.E.N. understands that Morrison denied any improper behaviour.
Signing the letter is not an admission of guilt.
He was spared jail in May after his second conviction in four months.
In January, he pleaded guilty to witness intimidation and was warned he would be locked up for a year if he was convicted of another offence before the end of 2011.
But just four months later, he escaped with a fine at Salford magistrates’ court after admitting criminal damage following a bust-up with his girlfriend.
He was brought back to court earlier this month after the court later discovered the fine caused the referral order to be automatically cancelled.
Morrison had his £600 fine quashed - which he donated to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital - and was instead given an absolute discharge, allowing the referral order to continue.
Full article: Troubled Ravel Morrison will get 'full support' of Manchester United | Football | The Guardian
Manchester United have pledged to give Ravel Morrison their full support to help get his life in order and prevent one of the more prodigiously talented young players to emerge through the club's ranks for many years becoming a story of wasted talent.
The chief executive, David Gill, said: "He's a great player and we are giving him all the support within the club that we can. We're discussing it [the best course of action] and we're helping him. He's a very, very talented young player and the appropriate people within the club are making sure we assist him as best as we can."
The club have been encouraged by the latest reports from the youth offending team that has been monitoring Morrison, with the district judge at his last court case commending him for his improved behaviour.
Sir Alex Ferguson believes the teenager has a rare talent that can lead to him becoming a player of flair and distinction. However, the United manager was almost certainly talking about Morrison in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport this year when he spoke of a young player at the club who was "highly emotional".
It's difficult to say. He's supposed to be a massive prospect and is highly rated by almost everybody. The only problem is, his attitude apparently isn't.
Let's be honest. You look at him and he looks a bit of a thug (lines in the eyebrows, skinhead etc) He's admitted in court two accounts of intimidation to do with an armed robbery witness and was lucky to escape the young offender's institute, not forgetting the end of his United career.
I'm all for getting a Gazza in our team providing Fergie can keep him out of the headlines for the wrong reasons. Do we have a place for such attitude in the squad though?
Rumours of him going AWOL are apparently false and he's actually been injured.
Cheers for posting, it would be a travesty if he didn't make the most of his abilities.
Bit of news lost between the ott doom and gloom of last night's performance. Ravel returned from injury last night to get 15 mins of game time in a 4-2 win for the reserves over Norwich at Carrow Road.
Brilliant stuff. Hope he finds form and fitness before the Carling Cup game because if Pogba and Fryers impressed the sky pundits that much the last day wait until they see Rav. If he does find fitness then he has to be included on the bench at least, especially considering some of the players that made the bench against Leeds.
Actually more than Ravel, i'm looking forward to watching Brady and Tunnicliffe make their debuts for us next season! i know it's a long way to go but i don't think we'll see Ravel get a chance until SAF is entirely convinced that he's turned his life around!
