Tensions were high before the game, the media were comparing the return of Suarez with that of Eric Cantona, completely short sited on their part. For one thing, Cantona attacked a fan who racially abused him, it was a turning point in the fight against Racism which IS the San Andreas fault of British society and as bad as Eric's actions were, it highlighted the issue and he got so much support because Eric's actions said 'Enough is Enough'...
Luis Suarez on the other hand was found guilty of racism and his denials, lies and actions have destroyed the years of work everyone has done to not only rid racism from football, but to try and rid racism from society and whilst he wears the famous Liverpool number 7 it only reminds us of how we havent combatted racism, just papered over the cracks...
Manchester United v Liverpool has always been the fixture I looked forward to, today I have to admit I wasn't...The worries I had if Liverpool were victorious and the possibility of Suarez scoring the winner was a nightmare I honestly prayed to God it wouldn't happen, thank God it didn't, could you imagine the state of English football if Suarez and Liverpool were pictured celebrating in front of their fans? Happily it didn't, but even though we won and Evra's joy added to our love for him, I still feel English football suffered today.
However for me, watching such a Legend in Kenny Dalglish fall from grace is heart wrenching, I understood the Liverpool fans reminiscing back to the days they were successful under Kenny, I just didn't expect him to bring back the dark days of that decade with him. He has acted disgracefully, supporting a player is one thing, but supporting a man who has racially abused another player is another and he has been wrong EVERYTIME on the issue, the T-Shirts, the comments about Suarez innocence, the pleading guilty but treating like he was getting the ban out of the way, the comments like "Suarez has nothing to be sorry for" and today! "I never knew he never shook his hand ... that's contrary to what I was told" and claiming the burning issue at the centre of this game was just 'Banter between fans' was just another moment of madness when you consider like I said before, this issue is the San Andreas fault of our Nation and has been since we introduced slavery to the World . I'm starting to think Kenny has lived in a bubble, I honestly believe Kenny doesn't see a problem and if I'm wrong he should quickly prove it by acting, because when Sir Alex Ferguson is advising Liverpool's legend on how to act on his own team and we know Kenny won't listen, you can only conclude he just doesn't understand the damage he has done to his Club, himself and his Legacy!
I've been surprised and disappointed with Kenny's behaviour throughout the entire episode. I find Kenny to be irratating at the beat of times, I simply cannot watch his pre and after match interviews but he should know how serious this situation is. His reputation has surely been tarnished, in my eyes it has.
He was a player and manager before my time really so could only go on what people told me and it came across like he was a dignified and classy bloke. Not seen that yet, he comes across as a paranoid senile old man. As Daniel Taylor put in his column he's "Outraged by everything and ashamed of nothing".
Yesterday when Dalglish was giving his post match interview I found myself cringing as he was coming out with his usual, "Suarez didn’t do anything" rhetoric. It’s time the owners of LFC had a word with KD and Suarez, as a United fan I never had buckets of respect for them as a club, but now I have none and know of a few LFC fans that were shocked by whats happened. Liverpool used to be a name tied in with success, at the minute it’s more likely to be paired alongside racism. As noted above, when KD came back as the manager, someone should have told him we had moved on from the previous time he was in charge. He seems stuck in the past.
Nice to see both Dalglish and Suarez apologizing, but it's too little to late for United fans, can't see us ever forgetting, but at least we can start to move on!
Wouldn't be a surprise. Think he's been poor at Liverpool, League Cup aside they've been very poor whenever I've watched them. If it wasn't for him being Kenny Dalglish he'd have been in for similar stick to Hodgson. A "top" Premier league side having a plus 5 goal difference after 26 games is awful.....
Any other manager with a similar record to Kenny's and Liverpool's fans would want gone. I hope Kenny remains manager for sometime yet! It's funny West Brom are only three points behind.
His press conferences are a becoming a bit of a joke as he's put up the barriers and basically refuses to answer any questions and looks like at any moment he could burst into a rage and batter the guy asking the question.
When it comes to Andy Burton on Sky though for once I couldn't blame him for wanting to punch that smug idiot.
