IrishManc brought up McClean in the O'Neill thread. I have not seen him play yet, but he's been getting rave reviews - is he a good prospect?

He looks the real deal to me. The way he runs at defenders is similar to Gareth Bale. He's strong, tall, good in the air, has a great delivery and is quick so I can't see a weakness really. Early days yet but hopefully he can keep it up. Him and Sessegnon are great to watch for Sunderland.
Another goal today. Didn't see it now but I heard it was fairly good. True to form Trap leaves him out of the Ireland squad
Sweet strike
Played well again today. Older than I thought he was, nearly 23, but been impressive when I've seen him. As IrishManc said he's got similar attributes to Bale, £350,000 is looking like an absolute bargain.
I didn't realise he was 23, I thought he was 18. I only watched the final 20-30 minutes but he did well in that time.
There are probably younger and better players around for us if people are suggesting that but Steve Bruce picked out an absolute gem in McClean. Brilliant signing. Lots of cheap, good signings from Irish clubs in recent years. Seamus Coleman, Kevin Doyle, David Meyler, Shane Long... players slipping through the radar. McClean was apparently first spotted in Ireland's equivalent to the Championship. Crazy. Huge step up in 2 years.
Finally included in the Ireland squad following a rethink from Trap. Far better than that quack Stephen Hunt. Has to go to the Euro's.
Yeah there has been a good few. The main reason that some of them aren't spotted early is due to them playing G.A.A and taking up soccer quite late in their lives. Long and Doyle started very late so their potential was harder to spot early. Long is still vastly improving by the game.
Another man of the match performance yesterday from McClean.
If he doesn't start for Ireland at the Euros there's something wrong. Cracking cross on him, very lively, creates and scores, works hard, tracks back. Not much more you want from a winger. Think I heard he'd signed a new contract. I don't think Sunderland will have much trouble keeping hold of him, don't think there's many teams above S'land who will be interested. He'll probably feel that he'll get more games at S'land too. If they qualify for the Europa, he'll definitely stay there. Can only see him moving if a big offer came in that Sunderland couldn't reject.
He should start but the chances are he won't even be in the squad. Unless there are injuries he won't go.
If he builds on his form next year then teams like Liverpool or Spurs may start to circle.
It's hard to really judge him as I think this season the overall standard in the premier league is pretty poor but considering where he's come from he's made a fantastic impact. He has the credentials strong, quick, decent cross, good in the air and a decent enough finisher but I think Sunderland might be his level bigger clubs would be best to stay away for now as they'll pay ridiculous fees to get Sunderland to sell and I think he'll be a Henderson/Downing level of wasted cash.
As for Ireland for me he's an absolute certainty for the squad although I get what Trap is doing by being loyal to the players who got him there but considering Ireland lack goals McLean is a player not many will know about and he'll unsettle defences by running at them. Ireland don't have a massive pool of players to chose from and one who's performing well in the premier league has to be in the squad and should arguably be starting matches. I've not seen how hard he works defensively as we know Trap likes to set his sides up not to let one in and score on the break rather than open up and try and score 3 or 4.
Yeah he has got very good attributes and very little weaknesses but I agree, Sunderland is probably his level.
I can sort of see Trap's logic in leaving him out of the squad completely though - he wants to remain loyal to those who qualified and if McClean was in the squad but wasn't getting game time there would be a lot of media scrutiny and added pressure which would be the last thing needed at the euro's. Don't think he would make a massive difference anyway. We are rubbish without him and we will still be rubbish with him.
McClean is getting death threats following his inclusion in the squad for the Euro's..... Some seriously sick people out there.
On the topic of his inclusion in the squad, I'm very happy he's there but it's a shame of the circumstances of his inclusion after McCarthys father's illness. Really feel for McCarthy, he's been unlucky with injuries over the past couple of years and now he's got back playing well and his father gets diagnosed with cancer. One setback after another. Still really rate him though, has bags of potential.
I wouldn't take death threats from twitter seriously
