Manchester United Confirm Deal For Zaha
By Nathan Youd
Manchester United has agreed a deal with Crystal Palace to sign promising England winger Wilfried Zaha.
Zaha will undergo a medical today, and the move is likely to be confirmed early next week.
The 20-year-old has agreed a five-and-a-half-year deal at Old Trafford, which will see him loaned back to Palace for the remainder of the season, before joining his new United teammates on their pre-season tour in July 2013.
United will reportedly pay £10m up front, as well as £5m add-ons depending on trophies and international appearances.
Palace appeared reluctant to sell Zaha, with all hopes seeming to hinge on agreeing a loan back. But his rapid development has increased the demand for his signature, and eventually they couldn’t stand in his way.
Zaha is another impressive player to come off Palace’s production line, and he will join the likes of Chelsea’s Victor Moses and Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne in the Premier League, all of whom learnt their trade at the South London club.
Zaha is considered to be one of the biggest prospects in English football, and he made his England debut last year against Sweden, and is widely tipped to collect a second cap in February’s friendly against Brazil.
The England international has been one of the most talked about players during the current transfer window, linked with moves to a host of Premier League sides including Arsenal.
But Arsene Wenger denied the speculation linking Zaha to Arsenal earlier this week, putting United in pole position, and now it seems Sir Alex Ferguson has finally got his man.
