Angelo Henriquez has joined Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old Chilean International joined Manchester United in the summer and has made four appearances scoring two goals in the process for the U21s team.

Henriquez is in line to make his debut against AFC Bournemouth in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

The striker came through the youth system at Universidad de Chile and hit 15 goals in 27 appearances last season, which led to his side winning the Apertura, the top crown in Chilean football.

Henriquez made his senior debut in 2012 against Serbia, scoring Chile’s only goal in a 3-1 defeat.

Sir Alex Ferguson has forced Henriquez to miss Chile’s under 20 World Championship campaign in order to go out on loan to Wigan, in hope that the young front man will return a better player.

Sir Alex trusts Wigan boss Roberto Martinez after Tom Cleverley enjoyed a fruitful campaign at the DW stadium during the 2010-11 season.

Ferguson will be hoping Henriquez’s exposure to first team football will see him return ready to stake his claim for a place in the United side.

In other news,

Joshua King has joined Blackburn Rovers on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

The move comes after King enjoyed a successful loan spell at Ewood Park, scoring twice in eight appearances for the Championship side.

The 20-year-old has signed for Rovers until 2015, with an option for a further year.

King, who can be deployed out wide or as a centre forward, had been viewed as a bright prospect at Old Trafford, making his debut from the bench against Wolves in 2009.

But after the signing of Robin van Persie, and due to the wealth of attacking options that United boast, King had found his opportunities limited, making just two substitute appearances in his three-and-a-half year spell at Old Trafford.

  1. Looking forward to seeing how Henriquez fares at Wigan. At least we have another team we can watch when United are not playing.

  2. Cleverley went to Wigan on loan and came back a better player for it so hopefully Henriquez will do the same but a little bit gutted to see Josh King leave but he had no chance of getting first team football at Manchester United.
