Scholes To Become A Coach

Paul Scholes has hinted the 2010/11 season maybe his last. Is sad news, it comes to all great (and some not so great) players unfortunately. With Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Edwin Van der Sar also likely to retire, the team/squad will have a strange and different look come the start of 2011/12 season.

Perhaps a harsh view but for the greater good of Manchester United I hope we see less of Giggs, Scholes and Neville next season. Rafael and Nani are ready to replace Neville and Giggs, replacing Scholes however is proving to be tougher. Can Anderson or Gibson step up?

Scholes had this to say regarding his playing career and future plans:

“I am coming to the end of my playing career and I maybe have one year left,” Scholes said. I have started doing my coaching badges back in England and hopefully one day I will be able to coach kids or coach some kind of team somewhere.”

How fortunate are those children!?! Not jealous in the slightest… Hopefully Scholes, Giggs and Neville become coaches at United, carrying on traditions and standards set by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Scholes also had praise for Sir Alex Ferguson; this is what he had to say:

“He has been great,” added Scholes. “It goes without saying what a top manager he has been. The amount of players he has brought through the youth team is great and it gives hope to all the kids in the youth team that if they are good enough he will definitely use them. It has just been fantastic working with him and I think there is a good few years left in him yet.”

Scholes is a true legend. Lets hope he goes out in a high winning prem for 19th time + chanmpions league.. i am worried who replace him. Celverey is a good shout.

Also David Silva has signed for Man City. I cant believe it, stunned. Lets hope fergie will sign some. Fans i know are getting worried

    @ Brian,

Cleverley is a decent shout. Will he be given an opportunity next season?

I’m less stunned with Silva signing for City. Apparently Valencia want a swap deal including Santa Cruz. City should snap their hand off.

Are you worried about the lack of signings, Brian?

Assuming Ole does go for a management role elsewhere, we could do worse than Giggs or Scholes to take over.

Cleverley maybe the one reason we have pulled out of any Joe Cole deal. We have youth pushing through and they need to play to become top, top talent.

The link above is slightly off topic, yet a warning for England and the EPL…

Cannavaro has slammed the clubs in Italy for not giving youth more chances, and we need to start wisening up in footy. As much as Cole is good, I don’t think he’s THAT good. Same for Silva, who has failed to ignite his team’s world cup bid so far.

Berbatov has proven to be no better than Kiko at times despite the fees, Anderson too. Cleverley is one of England’s top young stars. We either have one of the next England starting 11 and a Scholes’ replacement or someone who will fail to shine as his growth was stunted by united. Same goes for Wellbeck etc. We have to start developi9ng talent as we used to. We dont have the cash to compete with City, yet we have the youth to overtake them. We consistently win youth cups and leagues and reserve cups. So why are we not getting any new Scholes/Giggs/Beckhams popping through?

    @ Mark S,

aye, we may have to rely on youth/younger players as we cant compete with City financially. If we are to go by Fergie’s comments, the younger players at club will be given an opportunity.

Cannavaro has a point. Should we be allowed to sign the likes of Macheda?

Personally, think our younger players are shaping up well. Have high hopes for the likes of Rafael, Evans, Cleverley, Macheda, De Laet, James, Pogba, Obertan, Keane, Morrison. Obviously all will not make the grade, if we are lucky 3-5 out of the 10 will become first team regulars.

Will new youngsters be a success like Scholes, Giggs or Beckham? Hard to say, the trio are legends and is something the younger players should aim for.

Good comments regarding Cole and Silva.
