Paper Round-up (7th Feb 2010)

Manchester United news in the papers today consists of transfer stories.

The press are linking us with Jack Rodwell from Everton, Racing Santander’s 18-year-old Spanish midfielder Sergio Canales and Stephen Ireland from City.

Stephen Ireland from City is an interesting one. I’d be very surprised to see Ireland make the switch to the red half of Manchester. However, would I like Ireland to sign for United? To put it shortly, yes.  I really rate Ireland, think he is a good passer with good vision and not afraid to get stuck in. Ireland would be a perfect replacement for Scholes when we play a 4-3-3 formation, as one of the three centre midfielders.

From what I’ve seen of Rodwell he looks real class, real classy on the ball. Rodwell has yet to find his preferred position, Everton are undecided if he is a midfielder or a defender. I believe his better position will be in midfield, he has the attribute to make himself a world class midfielder. Passing is assured, can run with the ball and is a big lad so can look after himself in the heat of battle. I’d be delighted if we signed Rodwell, he is a star of the future.
